Evolving roles of clerkship directors: have expectations changed?
Physician educators directing medical student programs face increasingly more complex challenges to ensure students receive appropriate preparation to care for patients. The Alliance for Clinical Education (ACE) defined expectations of and for clerkship directors in 2003. Since then, much has changed in medical education and health care. ⋯ Participant responses indicated the need for a strong partnership between department chairs and the dean's office so that clerkship directors can fulfill their responsibilities. Our results indicate a need to ensure clerkship directors have the time and resources necessary to manage clinical medical student education in an increasingly complex health care environment. Further studies need to be conducted to obtain more precise data on the true amount of time they are given to do that role.

Perception and attitudes of medical students on clinical clerkship in the era of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic.
The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been placing severe strain on global healthcare systems and medical education programs, leading to growing demands for medical students to assume the role of preliminary healthcare providers. ⋯ In circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, educational strategies to clinical clerkship training for medical students should be developed to provide them with the opportunity to be actively involved in hospital practice under strict safety guidance focused on preventing virus infection and transmission.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is causing wide-spread interruptions in medical education. With little warning, clinical rotations were cancelled and medical students were sent home. ⋯ Simultaneously, medical doctors were scrambling to maintain competence in the face of rapidly evolving COVID-19 information. Here, we describe an education program that integrates medical students into interdisciplinary teams to review emerging COVID-19 research that directly answers questions sent in by medical doctors.

Non-technical skills progression during anesthesiology residency in Portugal: the impact of a National Pedagogical Plan.
Background Simulation is known as an important tool for the learning of technical and non-technical skills without endangering patient safety. In Portugal, a National Pedagogical Plan for Anesthesiology Residents was created based on simulation training. This plan was designed according to the objectives set forth by the Portuguese Board of Anesthesiology. ⋯ Conclusions The impact of simulation on anesthesiology non-technical skills during residency is positive and recognized by the students. Moreover, simulation also helps in the recognition of error, enriching the value of self-confidence and the crucial role of behavioral skills. Medical education engagement during the COVID-19 era - A student parents perspective.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the delivery of medical education and has limited the ability of student parents to fully engage with their studies. Student parents have been faced with additional challenges such as increased childcare roles and home-schooling responsibilities, splitting their focus. Identifying the issues student parents face and adopting workable solutions at all levels, will ensure the best outcomes for these students and better preparedness for the future.
