Comparative Study Clinical Trial
[The use of metamizole as a risk factor in the occurrence of agranulocytosis].
The risk of agranulocytosis following the use of metamizole was studied by the method of controlled cases. All cases of agranulocytosis and their control cases in Sofia for the period 1982-1986 were included in the study. The mean agranulocytosis morbidity for this period was 3.16 cases for one million population for one year. ⋯ A tendency toward an increase of 7.3% per year was found during the investigation. At the same time the agranulocytosis morbidity remained constant during the period of investigation. The results of the study lead to the conclusion that the use of metamizole is not related to a higher risk of agranulocytosis.

[Analytical reliability of the results of determining pH, pCO2 and pO2 with the ABL 300 (Radiometer) automatic pH and blood gas analyzer].
The analytical reliability of the determination of pH, pCO2 and pO2 by the automatic analyzer "ABL 300" (Radiometer) was studied. Control materials were used: Confirm, Acidbasol and Qualicheck in the normal, acid and alkaline sphere, and arterial blood, too. ⋯ The accuracy of the three directly determined indices meets the contemporary standards. The comparative analysis of the results obtained by "ABL 300" and "Corning 178" shows a high degree of correlation between the two apparatuses.

Two cases of a combination of a malignant blood disease with latent tuberculosis are presented. One of the patients was with acute leukemia and the other one was with non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma (Lymphosarcoma). ⋯ In one of the patients caseous tuberculosis of the bronchopulmonary, peribronchial and periportal lymph nodes was found, too. The tuberculous process had a latent course without characteristic manifestations but it also led to worsening of the patients' condition.

A female patient with Stein--Leventhal syndrome has been followed up for six years. The course of the disease was characterized by attacks of bronchial obstruction markedly related to the menstrual cycle. The patient was seen before during and after normal pregnancy and normal delivery. ⋯ The role of the female sex hormones in the pathogenesis and clinical characteristics of bronchial asthma is discussed. The bronchospasm in this particular case is accepted as a clinical manifestation of the basic disease. The case is presented because of the diagnostic difficulties and the clinical masks of allergic pulmonary diseases--bronchial asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, etc. in Stein--Leventhal syndrome wrongly and ineffectively treated.
