• To determine the relationship between the number of nocturia and 24-h urine volume, nocturnal urine volume, nocturnal bladder capacity and length of sleep duration as well as to assess the significance of these factors with respect to eliminating nocturnal voidings in individual patients with nocturia. ⋯ • Because nocturia is a multifactorial disorder and closely related to four factors (i.e. 24-h urine volume, nocturnal urine volume, nocturnal bladder capacity and length of sleep duration), the evaluation of all these factors appears to be clinically useful for determining the main contributing factor in patients with nocturia as well as the suitable treatment modality on an individual basis. • Physicians should take all these factors into consideration in the evaluation and treatment of nocturia.

• To present our experience on photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) in a cohort of men with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) by prostate cancer. ⋯ • The present study is the first on PVP applied to patients with prostate cancer. • It is shown that, for patients with CaP bothered by LUTS or retention, GreenLight laser prostatectomy is very safe and gives excellent relief from symptoms, with a good improvement in peak flow rate.

• To determine the surgical outcome of all scrotal explorations performed on patients presenting with acute scrotal pain suspicious of testicular torsion. ⋯ • Testicular torsion was the most common finding at surgical exploration, followed by torsion of testicular appendages. • Age had limited value in diagnosing the cause of acute scrotal pain. • Testicular torsion was associated with cold weather. • Our findings support the practice of surgical exploration for acute scrotal pain suspicious of testicular torsion in patients of any age.

We evaluated the feasibility and the potential advantages of a modification of the single-port laparoscopic radical prostatectomy using a periumbilical multichannel port plus a second port placed in the left fossa with the aim of having an adequate working angle during the most critical steps of the procedure. ⋯ Two ports laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is feasible in very selected cases. However, our pilot study should be still considered a technical report and the limits of the technique must still be defined in a larger population and by other investigators.

To report on the largest series to date of ulceration of the external genitalia, related to treatment with nicorandil - a vasodilator for the prevention and long-term treatment of angina - and to review the literature on the subject, focusing on the clinical features and the pathogenesis of this rare, yet marked, side-effect. ⋯ The growing body of literature showing the link between treatment with nicorandil and ulceration at multiple sites has led to the recognition of this side-effect by the World Health Organization. Nicorandil-related ulcers rarely involve the penile skin and constitute a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The pathogenesis of this rare side-effect is largely unknown, but mechanisms such as the 'vascular steal phenomenon' and the direct toxic effect of the drug or its metabolites have been implicated.
