Comparative Study[Activity of platelet serotonin receptors of patients with endogenous depression before and after treatment with antidepressive agents].
Effective 5-HT concentration eliciting the half-maximal rate of platelet deformation (aggregation) in drug-free bipolar or unipolar depressed women was significantly (p less than 0.001) lower as compared with matched controls (0.13 +/- 0.04 microM and 0.532 +/- 0.1 microM, respectively). After 1-3 months of antidepressant treatment this value increased to 0.47 +/- 0.16 microM and was no longer different from control. Possible mechanisms controlling the activity of serotonin2 platelet receptors are discussed.

[Diagnosis and treatment of encephalitis caused by herpes simplex virus].
The article is reviewing various diagnostic and treatment techniques in encephalitis caused by the virus of herpes simplex. Clinical symptoms and variants of the course of the disease are considered together with laboratory investigations of cerebrospinal fluid, electroencephalography and computerized tomography. The patients with the herpetic encephalitis suspected, need intensive treatment measures. Besides the conventional techniques, the early use of Acyclovir is recommended.

Case Reports Comparative Study[Treatment of patients with facial hemispasm by transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation].
Fifty-two patients (aged 15 to 78 years) suffering from facial hemispasm were treated by transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS). For this purpose electric-impulse apparatuses generating bipolar nonsymmetrical impulses were employed. ⋯ After a TENS session EMG showed no spontaneous activity in the form of "volleys of oscillations". A possible mechanism of TENS therapeutic effect in facial hemispasm is discussed.

[Diagnosis and forensic psychiatric expertise in traumatic cerebral arachnoiditis].
Patients (123) with traumatic cerebral arachnoiditis due to closed craniocerebral trauma, were investigated during complications or late sequelae of the trauma. All the patients were subjected to spinal puncture. Asthenic, psychosis-like and hallucinatory-paranoid disorders were detected as well as partial oligophrenia and dullness of consciousness. The degree of mental disorders run parallel with intracranial pressure elevation, suggesting the role of intracranial hypertension in pathogenesis of several psychic disorders.
