Historical Article[Role of epidemiological science and practice in protecting the health of the population of the country].
The historical stages of the development of epidemiology as a science with a specific object of study, is summarized. One of the greatest theoretical generalizations is the doctrine on the natural focality of diseases. New principles of theoretical epidemiology, new theories and concepts are analyzed. ⋯ The specific feature of the present stage of epidemiological situation is the dominating and constantly increasing role of viruses in the etiology of infectious diseases. The effectiveness of vaccinal prophylaxis to control vaccine-preventable infections is substantiated. The role of epidemiological science in revealing the epidemiological regularities of emerging and re-emerging infections is emphasized.

[Clinical course and outcomes of influenza A (H1N1) 2009 in pregnant women].
Study of course of pregnancy, delivery, postpartum period and perinatal outcomes in pregnant women with influenza A (H1N1) 2009. ⋯ Pregnant women are a high risk group for influenza and serious complications caused by the virus. Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 has a more severe course and a higher rate of complications in both mothers and neonates.

[Immunochip for differentiation of IgG to tick-borne encephalitis and West Nile fever viruses].
To demonstrate the possibility of development of test based on phosphorescent analysis (PHOSPHAN) for simultaneous identification and differentiation of specific IgG to tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and West Nile fever (WNF) viruses. ⋯ PHOSPHAN provides simultaneous detection of IgG in human serum to two related flaviviruses: TBE and WNF viruses. Usage of P/N criterion assessed with homologous and heterologous antigen allowed correct determination of species specificity of antibodies in 90% of serum samples from patients with TBE and WNF CONCLUSION: PHOSPHAN allows to detect and differentiate IgG to TBE and WNF viruses during testing of one serum sample in one plate well without decrease of sensitivity compared to enzyme immunoassay with separated testing of samples on two viruses. This provides savings of biomaterial, which is an advantage compared to enzyme immunoassay.

[Functional status of peripheral blood monocyte in patients with Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis accompanied by opisthorchiasis].
The characteristics of the functional status of peripheral blood monocytes/macrophages in patients with Ixodes tick-borne acute borreliosis accompanied by opisthorchiasis invasion were studied. The study revealed a decrease in the phagocytic activity of monocytes and in the level of expression of cell receptors Fcgamma with the expression of cell receptors C3beta being normal.

[Prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa O serogroups].
The serological typing of 708 P. aeruginosa strains made it possible to determine serogroups in 97.9% of cultures. Serogroups O2 and O6 were the most prevalent (33.8% and 2.5% respectively); serotypes O1, O3 and O11 also occurred rather frequently (about 10%); O4, O7 and O9 were rare (3-8%), serotypes O10 and O12, very rare (less than 1%). The prevalence of P. aeruginosa strains O2 and O6 among the clinical strains was shown over a period of 10 years, serogroup O2 always playing the leading role. In serogroups, the predominance of strains with a definite combination of partial antigen was established; strains with the antigenic structure not described in the International Scheme of the Structure of O-Antigens were detected.
