To evaluate the durability of pain relief provided by a new formulation of single-entity, hydrocodone extended-release (ER) (Zohydro(®) ER) throughout the 12-hour dosing interval by examining patterns of rescue medication use. ⋯ End-of-dose failure was not observed based on the use of rescue medication after administration of single-entity, twice daily, hydrocodone ER capsules (Zohydro ER).

Concurrent Validity of the Defense and Veterans Pain Rating Scale in VA Outpatients.
The purpose of this report is to investigate the concurrent validity of the Defense and Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS) with other validated self-report measures in U.S. veterans. ⋯ These findings provide preliminary evidence for the concurrent validity of the DVPRS as a brief, multidimensional measure of pain interference that make it a practical tool for use in primary care settings to assess the impact of pain on daily functioning and monitor chronic pain over time.

Combination of Superficial and Deep Blocks with Rivaroxaban.
Rivaroxaban is a new Xa inhibitor indicated for thromboprophylaxis in patients undergoing joint arthroplasty. This study was designed to assess the risk of major bleeding from the combination of either a single or a continuous deep, superficial, and plexus block and the use of rivaroxaban for thromboprophylaxis following joint arthroplasty. ⋯ Our data supports the concept that there is no increased risk of major bleeding when deep and superficial blocks are performed in combination in patients receiving thromboprophylaxis rivaroxaban following joint arthroplasty.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Trial Comparing the Effectiveness of Lumbar Transforaminal Epidural Injections of Particulate and Nonparticulate Corticosteroids for Lumbosacral Radicular Pain.
To compare equivalent doses of a nonparticulate (dexamethasone) with a particulate (betamethasone) corticosteroid in lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TFESIs) in terms of pain, function, and complications. ⋯ According to this study, pain relief and functional improvement are similar for both dexamethasone and betamethasone at 3 months. Considering its safety profile, dexamethasone could be considered as first choice for TFESI. However, given that the study was underpowered, more research is needed to support a recommendation of systematically using dexamethasone in TFESI.

The Prevalence of Pain in Adults with Multiple Sclerosis: A Multicenter Cross-Sectional Survey.
Examination of prevalence, intensity and associations of pain in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). ⋯ We confirmed high prevalence of pain, affecting approximately more than half of patients during the course of MS. Pain in MS is associated with disability, depression and, especially with anxiety, which has significant implications for treatment.
