Intrathecal (IT) drug delivery has shown its efficiency in treating refractory cancer pain, but switching opioids from the systemic to the intrathecal route is a challenging phase. Moreover, associations are widely used and recommended. Few data deal with the initial dosage of each drug. Analyzing conversion factors and initial dosages used in intrathecal therapy seems essential to decreasing the length of titration and to delivering quick pain relief to patients. ⋯ Local anesthetic:morphine ratio should be considered when starting IDDS treatment. EaPR during the IT analgesia titration phase was associated with better pain relief and outcomes in patients with refractory cancer-related pain.

Background Research suggests that colors may have an effect on human behavior, cognition, and emotions; however, little is known about their influence on pain perception. The aim of these two studies was to investigate whether colors have an impact on pain perception and to find the mechanism that underlies the influence of colors on pain. Methods In both studies, participants received electrocutaneous pain stimuli of the same intensity preceded by one of six colors (red, green, orange, blue, pink, or yellow) or a blank slide, which served as a control condition. ⋯ Particularly, participants rated pain stimuli preceded by red as being more painful compared with pain stimuli preceded by other colors, especially green and blue. Conclusions It is concluded that colors have an impact on pain perception. Our results have important implications for the color lights paradigm applied in studies on placebo effects.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is widely used in pain control in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation and is effective for fibromyalgia pain. However, its analgesic mechanism remains unknown. A possible mechanism for the effect of LLLT on fibromyalgia pain is via the antinociceptive signaling of substance P in muscle nociceptors, although the neuropeptide has been known as a neurotransmitter to facilitate pain signals in the spinal cord. ⋯ LLLT analgesia is mediated by the antinociceptive signaling of intramuscular substance P and is associated with TRPV1 activation in a mouse model of fibromyalgia or chronic muscle pain. The study results could provide new insight regarding the effect of LLLT in other types of chronic pain.
