The Effect of Adding Dry Needling to Physical Therapy in the Treatment of Cervicogenic Headache: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
To compare the long-term effect of adding real or sham dry needling with conventional physiotherapy in cervicogenic headache. ⋯ Dry needling has a positive effect on pain and disability reduction, cervical range of motion, and deep cervical flexor muscles performance in patients with cervicogenic headache and active trigger points, although the clinical relevance of the results was small.

Effects of a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet on reported pain, blood biomarkers and quality of life in patients with chronic pain: A pilot randomised clinical trial.
A low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet has been reported to improve chronic pain by reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, and sensitivity within the nervous system. The main aim of this trial is to evaluate the effects of a ketogenic diet on reported pain, blood biomarkers and quality of life in patients with chronic pain. ⋯ The implementation of a whole-food diet that restricts ultra-processed foods is a valid pain management tool; however, a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets may have potentially greater pain reduction, weight loss and mood improvements.

A Randomized controlled trial of the Sources of Meaning Card Method: A new meaning-oriented approach predicts depression, anxiety, pain acceptance, and crisis of meaning in chronic pain patients.
Although considered the first-line psychological treatment for chronic pain, cognitive behavioral therapy has recently been criticized as being too limited, insufficient, and sometimes ineffective in the treatment of patients with chronic pain. Moreover, important existential perspectives are sparsely or not at all integrated into cognitive behavioral therapy. We therefore propose to complement chronic pain treatment with a meaning-based intervention, the Sources of Meaning Card Method (SoMeCaM). This study tested its efficacy. ⋯ Our preliminary work demonstrates the importance of the existential perspective in chronic pain therapy.

The Effect of Scheduled Intravenous Acetaminophen in an Enhanced Recovery Protocol Pathway in Patients Undergoing Major Abdominal Procedures: A Prospective, Randomized, and Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.
Enhanced recovery protocols (ERPs) utilize multi-modal analgesia regimens. Individual regimen components should be evaluated for their analgesic efficacy. We evaluated the effect of scheduled intravenous (IV) acetaminophen within an ERP on analgesia and recovery after a major abdominal surgery. ⋯ Scheduled administration of IV acetaminophen did not improve postoperative analgesia or characteristics of postoperative recovery in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery within an ERP pathway.

Day-One Pain Reductions after Hip and Knee Replacement when Buprenorphine-Clonidine-Dexamethasone is added to Bupivacaine Nerve/Plexus Blocks: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
To compare pain outcome reports of patients undergoing hip or knee replacement who received single-injection nerve/plexus blocks with plain bupivacaine (BPV) with those of patients who received injections of buprenorphine-clonidine-dexamethasone (BCD) admixed with BPV. ⋯ Preoperative BPV-BCD blocks in the L2-L4 and L4-S3 nerve distributions for hip and knee replacements led to less pain on postoperative day one and increased knee and hip range of motion, compared with plain BPV blocks.
