Chest pain score: a novel and practical approach to angina pectoris. A diagnostic accuracy study.
The chest pain classifications that are currently in use are based on studies that are several decades old. Various studies have indicated that these classifications are not sufficient for determining the origin of chest pain without additional diagnostic tests or tools. We describe a new chest pain scoring system that examines the relationship between chest pain and ischemic heart disease (IHD). ⋯ We developed a pre-test chest pain score that uses a digital scoring system to assess whether or not the pain was caused by IHD. This scoring system can be applied easily and swiftly by healthcare professionals and can prevent the confusion that is caused by other classification and scoring systems.

Exposure to some air pollutants is associated with cardiovascular diseases. The objective of this study was to quantify the effect of exposure to fine particulate matter in hospitalizations due to ischemic heart disease and the costs to the healthcare system. ⋯ An excess of hospital admissions due to ischemic heart disease, with excess expenditure, was identified consequent to PM2.5 exposure.

Dermoid cysts are well-defined cysts containing sebaceous glands and dermal structures. In the literature, dermoid cysts and associated closure defects have been described in the same locations. ⋯ Dermoid cysts in the head and neck region may be accompanied by posterior fossa abnormalities.

Adverse reactions associated with prick tests are rare but may be present as serious systemic reactions. ⋯ The skin test must be performed under medical supervision, since complications that can lead to life-threatening reactions, if support measures are not readily implemented, have been attributed to this test.
