A randomized and prospective study on the value of antibiotic prophylaxis administration in transurethral resection of the prostate.
Antibiotic prophylaxis in transurethral resection of the prostate is a regular practice in urology. However, its prophylactic effect can be questioned when the antiseptic surgical technique is used. Nonetheless, urine culture-oriented antibiotic therapy is the gold standard for avoiding improper medication usage and bacterial resistance. ⋯ Antibiotic prophylaxis for patients whose urine is sterile is debatable in patients who are candidates for transurethral resection of the prostate. Most of the time, the antibiotic agent used is not specific for any of the bacteria recovered from the various sources analyzed.

Misoprostol versus oxytocin for labor induction in term and post-term pregnancy: randomized controlled trial.
Misoprostol, a synthetic E1 methyl analog prostaglandin, is at present receiving attention as a cervical modifier and labor induction agent. However, there is still a need for better determination of its safety and effectiveness. ⋯ 25 g of misoprostol used vaginally every 4 hours is safer and more efficient for cervical ripening and labor induction than oxytocin.

Therapeutic response to benzodiazepine in panic disorder subtypes.
This study makes a comparison between two subtypes of panic disorder regarding the clinical efficacy of clonazepam, a benzodiazepine. ⋯ Clonazepam was equally effective in the treatment of the respiratory and non-respiratory subtypes of panic disorder, suggesting there is no difference in the therapeutic response between the two subtypes.

Effects of three different types of exercise on blood leukocyte count during and following exercise.
High-intensity exercise causes tissue damage, production of stress hormones, and alterations in the function and quantity of various immune cells. Many clinical-physical stressors such as surgery, trauma, burns and sepsis induce a pattern of hormonal and immunological response similar to that of exercise. It has thus been suggested that heavy exercise might be used to cause graded and well-defined amounts of muscle trauma, thereby serving as an experimental model for inflammation and sepsis. ⋯ The data suggest that, of the three exercise patterns tested, prolonged aerobic exercise induced the largest and most readily measured patterns of immune response. Nevertheless, the changes provided only a partial model for the clinical inflammatory process.

Effects of ondansetron on respiratory pattern and sensation of experimentally induced dyspnea.
Dyspnea remains a therapeutic challenge, especially in chronic respiratory conditions. Recent studies have shown that the induction of unpleasant dyspnea sensations activates areas in the insular cortex. ⋯ The present results suggest that 5-HT3 receptors do not play an important role in the mediation of dyspnea sensations.
