Randomized Controlled TrialBismuth subgallate/borneol (suile) is superior to bacitracin in the human forearm biopsy model for acute wound healing.
The human forearm biopsy model can evaluate the effect of novel agents on acute wounds. Bismuth subgallate/borneol (Suile) is a new product cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for treating partial-thickness wounds. Anecdotal reports suggest that Suile may be effective for full-thickness wounds because of its antimicrobial and hemostatic properties. ⋯ Although this study was powered to demonstrate equivalence, convincing evidence indicates that Suile is superior to bacitracin in this model. Based on the results, future studies in full-thickness wounds with Suile are warranted. The biopsy model provides these advantages: direct comparison within subjects, rapid study completion, good patient compliance, and experience with products before embarking on larger clinical trials in wounds.

Comparative StudyClinical evaluation comparing the efficacy of aquacel Ag with vaseline gauze versus 1% silver sulfadiazine cream in toxic epidermal necrolysis.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether using Aquacel Ag (ConvaTec, Skillman, New Jersey) with Vaseline (Unilever, London, England) gauze instead of silver sulfadiazine cream (SSD) as the wound care protocol to treat toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) can improve wound healing, pain control, and reduction of labor costs. ⋯ This study showed that Aquacel Ag with Vaseline gauze decreased pain and labor costs but did not shorten wound healing time. Thus, Aquacel Ag with Vaseline gauze can be an efficient method for treating TEN wounds.

Randomized Controlled TrialUse of a silver-containing hydrofiber dressing for filling abscess cavity following incision and drainage in the emergency department: a randomized controlled trial.
The objective of this study was to investigate whether the use of a silver-containing hydrofiber dressing to pack abscess cavity after incision and drainage (I & D) leads to faster wound healing and less pain. ⋯ In patients with cutaneous abscesses, use of an antimicrobial hydrofiber ribbon dressing for packing was associated with faster wound healing and reduction in perceived pain in comparison with use of iodoform dressing.

Randomized Controlled TrialAlginate dressing and polyurethane film versus paraffin gauze in the treatment of split-thickness skin graft donor sites: a randomized controlled pilot study.
To compare postoperative healing of split-thickness skin graft (STSG) donor sites using traditional dressings (paraffin gauze) or modern wound dressings (alginate dressing and polyurethane film) in a randomized controlled trial. ⋯ Semiocclusive dressings with alginate dressings and polyurethane film showed no advantages over treatment with paraffin gauze. With lower costs and better patient acceptance, paraffin gauze dressings were the preferred treatment for STSG donor sites.

The Relationship Between Length of Surgery and the Incidence of Pressure Ulcers in Cardiovascular Surgical Patients: A Retrospective Study.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the length of surgery and the incidence of pressure ulcers (PrUs) in cardiovascular surgical patients. ⋯ The authors' retrospective analysis showed the length of surgery was an important risk factor for PrUs in cardiovascular surgical patients, but not the length of cardiopulmonary bypass. The incidence of SRPUs increased gradually with the extension of length of surgery.
