Is topiramate effective for migraine prevention in patients less than 18 years of age? A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Mainly based on evidence of success in adults, various medications are commonly used to prevent pediatric migraines. Topiramate has been approved for migraine prevention in children as young as 12 years of age. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to assess the currently published data pertaining to the efficacy of topiramate for migraine prevention in patients less than 18 years of age. ⋯ Topiramate may not achieve a more effective clinical trial endpoint than placebo in the prevention of migraines in patients less than 18 years of age, and topiramate may lead to more side effects or adverse events in the included patients.

The effect and safety of monoclonal antibodies to calcitonin gene-related peptide and its receptor on migraine: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Migraine has been recognized as one of the leading causes of disability in the 2013 Global Burden of Disease Study and seriously affects the quality of patients' life, current treatment options are not ideal. Monoclonal antibodies to calcitonin gene-related peptide and its receptor (CGRP-mAbs) appear more promising for migraine because of considerably better effect and safety profiles. The objective of this study is to systematically assess the clinical efficacy and safety of CGRP-mAbs for migraine therapy. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that CGRP-mAbs are effective in anti-migraine therapy with few adverse reactions, but more and larger sample-size RCTs are required to verify the current findings.

The association between brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene polymorphism and migraine: a meta-analysis.
Migraine is a recurrent headache disease related to genetic variants. The brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene rs6265 (Val66Met) and rs2049046 polymorphism has been found to be associated with migraine. However, their roles in this disorder are not well established. Then we conduct this meta-analysis to address this issue. ⋯ Our meta-analysis suggested that BDNF rs6265 and rs2049046 polymorphism were associated with common migraine in Caucasian population. Further studies are awaited to update this finding in Asian population and other types of migraine.

The efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation on migraine: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trails.
As a non-invasive therapy, whether transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is effective on migraine. This article was aimed to assess the efficacy of TMS on migraine based on randomized controlled trails (RCTs). ⋯ TMS is effective for migraine based on the studies included in the article.

Therapeutic efficacy and safety of Botulinum Toxin A Therapy in Trigeminal Neuralgia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Several different interventions have been examined to alleviate pain and reduce frequency of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) paroxysms. However, some patients continue to have persistent or recurrent painful attacks. Using a systematic review and meta-analysis approach, we aimed to synthesize evidence from published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) as a possible emerging choice of treatment for TN. ⋯ Despite limited data, our results suggest that BTX-A may be an effective and safe treatment option for patients with TN. Further larger and well-designed RCTs are encouraged to translate these findings into better clinical outcome and better quality of life for TN patients.
