Comparative Study of Chronic Postischemic Pain Models in Mice: O-Ring Versus Tie Method.
The success rate for the production of animal models of chronic postischemia pain (CPIP) using an O-ring has yet to be improved in the study of complex regional pain syndrome-type I (CRPS-I), and producing a CPIP model is challenging, especially for mice. ⋯ CPIP, mouse, O-ring, rubber band, reperfusion, allodynia, hyperalgesia.

Observational Study
The Effect of Preoperative Opioid Dosage on Postoperative Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Knee Surgery.
Opioid prescription before knee replacement surgery is associated with longer hospital stays, more postsurgical pain, and a higher rate of complications. Despite the growing evidence against opioids, they remain popular preoperative pain management prescriptions. ⋯ Opioids, analgesic, knee pain, total knee replacement, knee surgery, pre-operative opioids, knee outcomes.

Acute pain is a risk factor for developing postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication of herpes zoster (HZ). Supplemental analgesics are frequently used in the treatment of acute herpetic pain. However, there are insufficient data regarding when to begin supplemental analgesics, and it is unknown whether the delayed use of supplemental analgesics increases the risk of PHN in high-risk patients. ⋯ Herpes zoster, postherpetic neuralgia, analgesia, opioid, nerve block, tricyclic antidepressant.

Pain control is strongly correlated with the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) quality-of-care domains and overall hospital experience. Prior research implicates several factors in the variability of patients' pain management satisfaction scores, including but not limited to racial diversity, ethnic diversity, gender, socioeconomic status, and other cultural factors. ⋯ Pain, HCAHPS, patient reported outcome measures, patient satisfaction, ethnicity, race.
