Evaluation of analgesic and physiologic effects of epidural morphine administered at a thoracic or lumbar level in dogs undergoing thoracotomy.
To evaluate the analgesic and physiological effects of epidural morphine administered at the sixth and seventh lumbar or the fifth and sixth thoracic vertebrae in dogs undergoing thoracotomy. ⋯ The use of morphine, at a volume of 0.25 mL kg 0.1, administered epidurally over the thoracic vertebrae provided longer lasting analgesia than when deposited over the lumbar vertebrae.

A comparison in dogs of medetomidine, with or without MK-467, and the combination acepromazine-butorphanol as premedication prior to anaesthesia induced by propofol and maintained with isoflurane.
To compare the haemodynamic effects of three premedicant regimens during propofol-induced isoflurane anaesthesia. ⋯ MK-467 attenuates certain cardiovascular effects of medetomidine in dogs anaesthetized with isoflurane. The cardiovascular effects of MMK are very similar to those of AB.

Effects of dexmedetomidine and xylazine on cardiovascular function during total intravenous anaesthesia with midazolam and ketamine and recovery quality and duration in horses.
To compare cardiovascular effects and recovery quality and duration of total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) with xylazine-ketamine-midazolam or dexmedetomidine-ketamine-midazolam. ⋯ Both drug combinations are suitable to maintain anaesthesia for two hours, with good cardiovascular and good to excellent recovery conditions.

Sedative and antinociceptive effects of dexmedetomidine and buprenorphine after oral transmucosal or intramuscular administration in cats.
To compare sedation and antinociception after oral transmucosal (OTM) and intramuscular (IM) administration of a dexmedetomidine-buprenorphine combination in healthy adult cats. ⋯ In healthy adult cats, OTM administration of dexmedetomidine and buprenorphine resulted in comparable levels of sedation and antinociception to IM dosing. The OTM administration may offer an alternative route to administer this sedative-analgesic combination in cats.

Midazolam, as a co-induction agent, has propofol sparing effects but also decreases systolic blood pressure in healthy dogs.
To evaluate the effects of the co-administration of midazolam on the dose requirement for propofol anesthesia induction, heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and the incidence of excitement. ⋯ The co-administration of midazolam with propofol decreased the total dose of propofol needed for induction of anesthesia in sedated healthy dogs, caused some excitement and a clinically unimportant decrease in SAP.
