Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialIntermittent versus continuous oxaliplatin and fluoropyrimidine combination chemotherapy for first-line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer: results of the randomised phase 3 MRC COIN trial.
When cure is impossible, cancer treatment should focus on both length and quality of life. Maximisation of time without toxic effects could be one effective strategy to achieve both of these goals. The COIN trial assessed preplanned treatment holidays in advanced colorectal cancer to achieve this aim. ⋯ Cancer Research UK.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialTemsirolimus and bevacizumab, or sunitinib, or interferon alfa and bevacizumab for patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (TORAVA): a randomised phase 2 trial.
Combining targeted treatments for renal cell carcinoma has been suggested as a possible method to improve treatment efficacy. We aimed to assess the potential synergistic or additive effect of the combination of bevacizumab, directed against the VEGF receptor, and temsirolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, in metastatic renal cell carcinoma. ⋯ French Ministry of Health and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPreoperative radiotherapy combined with total mesorectal excision for resectable rectal cancer: 12-year follow-up of the multicentre, randomised controlled TME trial.
The TME trial investigated the value of preoperative short-term radiotherapy in combination with total mesorectal excision (TME). Long-term results are reported after a median follow-up of 12 years. ⋯ The Dutch Cancer Society, the Dutch National Health Council, and the Swedish Cancer Society.

Multicenter StudyAttenuated immunochemotherapy regimen (R-miniCHOP) in elderly patients older than 80 years with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: a multicentre, single-arm, phase 2 trial.
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a common cancer in elderly patients. Although treatment has been standardised in younger patients, no prospective study has been done in patients over 80 years old. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of a decreased dose of CHOP (doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone) chemotherapy with a conventional dose of rituximab in elderly patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. ⋯ Groupe d'Etude des Lymphomes de l'Adulte (GELA).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudySubcutaneous versus intravenous administration of bortezomib in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma: a randomised, phase 3, non-inferiority study.
Intravenous injection is the standard administration route of bortezomib; however, subcutaneous administration is an important alternative. We compared the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous versus intravenous bortezomib at the approved 1·3 mg/m(2) dose and twice per week schedule in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma. ⋯ Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development, and Millennium Pharmaceuticals.
