OAGB vs BGBP: A retrospective comparative study of a cohort of patients who had bariatric surgery in 2012 at one centre by a single surgeon.
Two modifications of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) and Roux-en-Y banded gastric bypass (BGBP), are gaining popularity in use because the OAGB is reported to be a simpler operation, and the BGBP is reported to have sustained weight loss compared to standard RYGB. A retrospective review and analysis of data comparing outcomes up to 5 years after BGBP and OAGB from a prospectively maintained database of all bariatric metabolic operations in 2012 was performed. Eighty-two patients underwent a BGBP and 90 an OAGB. ⋯ The %EBWL and resolution of T2DM were significantly higher after the OAGB operation at the expense of increased incidence of nutrient deficiencies and hypoproteinemia. Quality of life improvement and patient satisfaction were high after both operations. Long-term follow up and multicentre prospective studies are needed to confirm these intermediate outcomes.

Evaluation of spin within abstracts in obesity randomized clinical trials: A cross-sectional review.
This is a cross-sectional analysis of spin in randomized controlled trial (RCT) abstracts published in top-ranked obesity and general medicine journals. The top seven obesity and four general medicine journals were searched from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2017. To be included in this study, a trial must be an RCT with non-significant primary endpoint (P > 0.05), exclusively randomize subjects with overweight or obesity or have a primary endpoint of weight loss. ⋯ Our study found that obesity medicine RCTs from top-ranked journals with non-significant primary endpoints published in 2016 and 2017 frequently have spin in their abstracts. Abstracts with evidence of spin may influence a reader's perception of new drugs or procedures. These results warrant a careful review of future RCTs, but may not be generalizable to RCTs published in lower-ranked journals.

Role of exercise training in polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Preliminary evidence suggests exercise in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may improve reproductive and cardiometabolic parameters. Our primary aim was to determine the impact of exercise training on reproductive health in women with PCOS. Our secondary aim was to determine the effect of exercise training on cardiometabolic indices. ⋯ Our meta-analysis found that exercise improved lipid profiles and decreased waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and fasting insulin. The impact of exercise interventions on reproductive function remains unclear. However, our meta-analysis suggests that exercise interventions may improve cardiometabolic profiles in women with PCOS.

One anastomosis gastric bypass versus Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for morbid obesity: a meta-analysis.
We aim to review the available literature on morbidly obese patients treated with one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) in order to compare the clinical outcomes of the two methods. A literature search was performed in PubMed, Cochrane library and Scopus, in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria (7452 patients). ⋯ The rate of type 2 diabetes remission was greater in the OAGB group. The rate of hypertension and dyslipidemia remission was also similar between OAGB and RYGB. Randomized controlled trials, comparing RYGB to OAGB, are necessary to further assess their clinical outcomes.

We aimed to describe the current state of specialist obesity services for adults with clinically severe obesity in public hospitals in Australia, and to analyse the gap in resources based on expert consensus. We conducted two surveys to collect information about current and required specialist obesity services and resources using open-ended questionnaires. Organizational level data were sought from clinician expert representatives of specialist obesity services across Australia in 2017. ⋯ Key gaps included staffing components of the MDT (psychologist, exercise physiologist/physiotherapist) and access to publicly funded weight loss pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery. There was consensus on the need for significant improvements in staff, physical infrastructure, access to services, education/training in obesity medicine and targeted research funding. Based on the small number of existing, often under-resourced specialist obesity services that are located only in a few major cities, the vast majority of Australians with clinically severe obesity cannot access the specialist evidence based treatments needed.
