Multicenter Study Comparative StudyEpidemiology of pulmonary hypertension: new data from the Swiss registry.
since 1999 data from pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients from all PH centres in Switzerland were prospectively collected. We analyse the epidemiological aspects of these data. ⋯ PH is a disease affecting adults of all ages. The management of these patients in specialised centres guarantees a high quality of care. Analysis of the registry data could be an instrument for quality control and might help identify weak points in assessment and treatment of these patients.

Multicenter StudyActive screening for pulmonary tuberculosis among immigrants by chest x-ray at the Swiss border.
To assess the number of immigrants with pulmonary tuberculosis detected by chest x-ray screening at the Swiss border. ⋯ Only 22% (27/125) of immigrants with CXR abnormalities suggestive of pulmonary tuberculosis were documented by smear and/or culture and 40% (50/125) needed antituberculous treatment. 2/11 smear-positive immigrants would not have been detected by a questionnaire on symptoms.

Multicenter Study[HIV infection, tuberculosis and tuberculin test in Switzerland. The Swiss HIV Cohort Study].
The usefulness of the tuberculin skin test (TST) for HIV-infected subjects may be questioned because false-negative results are increasingly common with advanced immune deficiency. The objectives of this research were thus to describe the use and the results of TST among patients with HIV infection in Switzerland and to measure the usefulness of isoniazid preventive chemotherapy and the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) relative to TST and CD4 cell count at the time of TST. ⋯ Despite its usefulness, TST is often performed too late and is therefore difficult to interpret. TST should be done as early as possible. TST should be done as early as possible. Among patients with CD4 < 200 per mm3, a negative TST should not preclude the use-of preventive chemotherapy, particularly in those originally from countries with a high incidence of tuberculosis.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial[Childhood treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia using i.v. adenosine].
Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia is the most frequent significant arrhythmia in the pediatric age group, especially in the first year of life. In neonates and infants there are important limitations for the commonly used drugs such as verapamil and digitalis. ⋯ A major disadvantage are recurrences in about one third of cases. We conclude that adenosine is an efficient and safe treatment for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in the whole pediatric age group including neonates and infants.
