Case ReportsConfirmed E-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury (EVALI) with lung biopsy; A case report and literature review.
E-cigarette or vaping has become an increasingly popular alternative to smoking tobacco. In September 2019 multiple cases of confirmed E-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury were published. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the pathologic mechanism of this condition. ⋯ The underlying pathophysiological mechanism in E-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury is most likely acute lung injury related to direct inhalant-mediated parenchymal inflammation.

Case ReportsSuccessful recovery from critical COVID-19 pneumonia with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: A case report.
A public health emergency of current international concern is the outbreak of a severe respiratory illness, that is, coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The disease initially started in Wuhan, China, and it rapidly spread to most regions of the world. ⋯ We describe the patient's clinical course, from mild symptoms at the time of illness onset to symptoms of severe pneumonia as the illness progressed. We provide important information regarding our clinical experience for further understanding of management discrepancies, as treatment with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or pharmacotherapy (e.g., antivirals, immunomodulators, and glucocorticoids) is often dependent on the severity of symptoms.

There are growing reports of adverse health effects from e-cigarette use or vaping. The U. ⋯ Vaping has been associated with acute eosinophilic pneumonia, organizing pneumonia, lipoid pneumonia, diffuse alveolar damage, acute respiratory distress syndrome, hypersensitivity pneumonia, and giant cell interstitial pneumonitis. Here we present a case of vaping-associated diffuse alveolar hemorrhage.

Case ReportsUpper airway obstruction in an adolescent: Can airway foreign bodies be missed without self-reporting?
Upper airway obstruction due to foreign body aspiration is rare in adolescents. Diagnosis of the same is difficult, and incorrect, delay of treatment is common in patients with no aspiration history. ⋯ However, this unnecessary surgical procedure was narrowly avoided because his symptoms resolved after he expelled the chewing gum from his airway. Despite being questioned several times about aspiration of any foreign bodies, he did not self-report the incident because he did not suspect that his symptoms were due to swallowing of the chewing gum.

Case ReportsLate presentation of lung adenocarcinoma in a stable solitary pulmonary nodule: A case presentation and review of the literature.
A 67-year-old patient has been followed by our pulmonary clinic for Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and a stable pulmonary nodule. Solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) was detected on the lung cancer screening by low dose computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest. It remained stable on repeat CT scan at 6, 12 and 24-months interval. ⋯ The patient then underwent right upper lobectomy followed by chemoradiation therapy. Current guidelines do not recommend follow up for a solitary pulmonary nodules less than 6 mm nodule if it remains stable for 12-24 months. Our case report of the late presentation of lung adenocarcinoma in a stable solitary pulmonary nodule suggests the need to exercise increased caution in the management of incidental pulmonary nodules.
