Multidrug resistant Gram-negative rods are increasingly isolated from clinical specimens, especially from hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of imipenem resistant strains of Gram-negative rods isolated in dr. A. ⋯ Among imipenem-resistant strains Pseudomonas aeruginosa prevailed (88,9%). P. aeruginosa strains were sensitive to colistin, 45,5% of them to aztreonam and 44,0% to ceftazidime. The imipenem consumption in the appropriate years included in this study was: 805,00; 1201,25; 940,00; 1390,00; 1660,00; 1341,25; 1841,25 DDD respectively, and was strictly connected with increasing imipenem-resistant Gram-negative rods isolation.

This study was performed to determine the susceptibility of 50 C. difficile strains isolated from faecal samples of children suspected to antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD) to antimicrobial agents: metronidazole, vancomycin, erythromycin, clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, moxifloksacin, gatifloksacin and imipenem. The all C. difficile strains were sensitived to metronidazole and vancomycin. Twenty six per cent of strains were resistant to erythromycin and clindamycin (MLS(B) type resistance). Resitance to ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gatifloxacin and imipenem was detected in 98%, 8%, 8% and 30% of C. difficile strains, respectively.

The aim of this study was to determine and evaluate IgG, IgM and IgA levels to pertussis toxin (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) and endotoxin (LPS) of B. pertussis in children with clinical symptoms of whooping cough. The serum samples obtained from 265 children (age range: 2 months-16 years) suspected of pertussis were examined by indirect haemagglutination (IH) and ELISA tests. ⋯ The four times increase of antibody level to LPS determined by IH was observed in 86.7% of children suspected of pertussis. Humoral response to B. pertussis infection is mainly connected with higher IgA level to PT, FHA, LPS and IgM to LPS in children with clinical symptoms of whooping cough.
