[Long-acting injectable risperidone: naturalistic study in three hospitals in Aquitaine].
Injectable risperidone is the first long-acting second-generation antipsychotic. A middle-term naturalistic study has been conducted with the first treated patients of three psychiatric hospitals in Aquitaine. ⋯ Despite the small size of the sample, this study presents a view of the use of the drug in realistic conditions and appears to show that long-acting injectable risperidone is probably the most appropriate treatment for stable, discharged patients.

Multicenter StudyIntensivist physician staffing and the process of care in academic medical centres.
Although intensivist physician staffing is associated with improved outcomes in critical care, little is known about the mechanism leading to this observation. ⋯ High intensity physician staffing is associated with increased use of evidence-based quality indicators in patients receiving mechanical ventilation.

The effect of the public or private status of health care facility in acute coronary syndrome: data from Thai ACS Registry.
Few data showed the differences between public and private hospitals in management practices and outcomes of patients with acute coronary syndrome. Furthermore, no data is available in Thailand. ⋯ In Thailand, management of patients with acute coronary syndrome is influenced by the public or private status of the hospitals. Patients were more likely to undergo coronary angiography and coronary revascularization procedures in private hospitals. The length of hospital stays and in-hospital mortality was higher in public hospitals.

Multicenter StudyExperiences of end-of-life care in community hospitals.
Concerns remain that health and social care services often fail people dying of chronic illnesses other than those with cancer. British government policy aims to improve end-of-life care and to enable people to make choices about place of care near the end of life, with the assumption that home is often the preferred option. However, some elderly people may lack suitable social networks, family carers and other resources to remain at home. ⋯ Most participants regarded community hospitals as preferable to larger district general hospitals. Our research reveals that these participants regarded community hospitals as acceptable places for end-of-life care. Finally, we discuss the implications of our findings for improving end-of-life care.

Multicenter StudyThe relationship between volume and outcome following elective open repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in 131 German hospitals.
Several studies indicate that high-volume hospitals have better results in open repair of unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). Up to now no studies had addressed this question in German hospitals. ⋯ Patient's age, ASA classification, AAA diameter, length of procedure, suprarenal clamping and blood transfusion are predictive variables for an increased perioperative mortality in elective open AAA repair. Mortality is also increased by a low annual volume. Further studies are needed to examine whether these data are applicable to all German hospitals.
