Multicenter observational study comparing sedation/analgesia protocols for laser photocoagulation treatment of retinopathy of prematurity.
The aim of this study was to identify the best sedation/analgesia protocol for laser photocoagulation (PC) of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). ⋯ From the viewpoint of sedation/pain relief, AOS anesthesia should be the best protocol. However, considering all the various factors together, the most reasonable one can be varied based on the patient's condition and hospital.

Pain intensity and interference with functioning and well-being in subgroups of patients with chronic pain treated with once-daily hydrocodone tablets.
A previous 52-week trial of patients with chronic noncancer, non-neuropathic pain (CNNP) showed clinically meaningful improvement in pain intensity, pain interference, and physical health-related quality of life (HRQL) following daily treatment with an extended-release, once-daily hydrocodone (Hysingla(®) ER; HYD) bitartrate tablet. ⋯ Regardless of subgroup, patients with CNNP treated with HYD showed clinically meaningful improvements in pain intensity, pain interference, and physical HRQL, although not in mental HRQL or sleep quality. Improvements were generally larger for opioid-naïve patients and patients with severe baseline pain.

Preoperative opioid strength may not affect outcomes of anterior cervical procedures: a post hoc analysis of 2 prospective, randomized trials.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between preoperative opioid strength and outcomes of anterior cervical decompressive surgery. ⋯ Preoperative opioid strength did not adversely affect outcomes in this analysis. Careful patient selection can yield good results in this patient population.

Implementation of a Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Weaning Protocol: A Multicenter Cohort Study.
To evaluate the generalizability of stringent protocol-driven weaning in improving total duration of opioid treatment and length of inpatient hospital stay after treatment of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). ⋯ Adoption of a stringent weaning protocol resulted in improved NAS outcomes, demonstrating generalizability of the protocol-driven weaning approach. Opportunity remains for additional protocol refinement.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of a higher-bioavailability buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual tablet versus buprenorphine/naloxone film for the treatment of opioid dependence during induction and stabilization: a multicenter, randomized trial.
Sublingual buprenorphine and combination buprenorphine/naloxone (BNX) are effective options for the treatment of opioid dependence. A BNX sublingual tablet approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the induction and maintenance treatment of opioid-dependence in adults was developed as a higher-bioavailability formulation, allowing for a 30% lesser dose of buprenorphine with bioequivalent systemic exposure compared with another BNX sublingual tablet formulation. No data were previously available comparing the higher-bioavailability BNX sublingual tablet to generic buprenorphine or BNX sublingual film; we therefore evaluated treatment retention during induction and stabilization with the higher-bioavailability BNX sublingual tablet versus generic buprenorphine or BNX sublingual film. ⋯ Based on the findings from this study in patients with opioid dependence, the higher-bioavailability BNX sublingual tablet formulation was noninferior to both generic buprenorphine (induction) and BNX film (stabilization). These findings suggest that BNX sublingual tablets are an efficacious and well-tolerated option for induction and early stabilization treatment of opioid dependence.
