To determine the effectiveness and safety of ciprofol for sedating patients in ICUs who required mechanical ventilation (MV). ⋯ Ciprofol was well tolerated, with a noninferior sedation profile to propofol in Chinese ICU patients undergoing MV for a period of 6-24 hours.

Comparison of the novel membrane-based carbon dioxide filter memsorb™ with a chemical granulate absorbent using a high-fidelity lung simulator: a prospective randomized in vitro trial.
Memsorb™ is a novel device for carbon dioxide (CO2) removal from anesthesia circuits via a semipermeable polymeric membrane. We evaluated the performance of the memsorb device for the removal of CO2 in an Aisys™ CS2 machine and compared it with a standard chemical granulate absorber (CGA) using a high-fidelity lung simulator. ⋯ CO2 was successfully removed from the anesthesia circuit. FICO2 was significantly higher with memsorb throughout the observation period. Nevertheless, the clinical impact of these observations remains unclear. Further clinical trials are required to determine the utility of the novel device.

Randomized Controlled TrialDelirium in ventilated patients receiving fentanyl and morphine for Analgosedation: Findings from the ANALGESIC trial.
The differential effect of fentanyl vs. morphine analgosedation on the development of hospital inpatient delirium in patients receiving mechanical ventilation is unknown. We aimed to compare the incidence of coding for delirium and antipsychotic medication use in patients treated with fentanyl vs. morphine in the ANALGESIC trial. ⋯ Fentanyl is associated with a higher incidence of hospital inpatient delirium when used for analgosedation compared with morphine, and the dose of opioid is linearly related to the need for antipsychotic medication administration. The role of analgosedation in promoting delirium requires further investigation.

Comparison of the effect of pressure control and volume control ventilation on endotracheal tube cuff pressure in patients undergoing general anesthesia and mechanical ventilation: a parallel randomized clinical trial.
Endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation are prevalent interventions in the operating room and intensive care unit. Recently, the complications of endotracheal tube cuff pressure have been a topic of interest. Therefore, this study compared the effect of pressure control and volume control ventilation modes on the endotracheal cuff pressure rate in patients undergoing general anesthesia and mechanical ventilation. ⋯ Since the cuff pressure has been significantly reduced in both groups over time, continuous monitoring of endotracheal tube cuff pressure in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation is essential. Therefore, it is suggested to keep the cuff pressure within the recommended range to prevent complications resulting from cuff pressure reduction, such as aspiration and ventilation decrease.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of intraoperative low vs. conventional tidal volume on the incidence of postoperative acute kidney injury after noncardiac surgery: a two-center randomized clinical trial.
In adults undergoing noncardiac surgery, the correlation between intraoperative tidal volume and postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low tidal volume ventilation on the incidence of postoperative AKI compared with conventional tidal volume in adults undergoing noncardiac surgery. ⋯ Among adults undergoing noncardiac surgery, low tidal volume mechanical ventilation did not significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative AKI compared with conventional tidal volume.
