Triclosan-coated sutures reduce the incidence of wound infections and the costs after colorectal surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
In colorectal surgeries, surgical site infections (SSIs) frequently cause morbidity; an incidence of up to 20% has been shown in previous studies. Recently, to prevent microbial colonization of suture material in operative wounds, triclosan-coated polyglactin suture materials with antimicrobial activity have been developed; however, their significance in colorectal surgery remains unclear. This randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess the value of triclosan-coated polyglactin sutures in colorectal surgery. ⋯ Triclosan-coated sutures can reduce the incidence of wound infections and the costs in colorectal surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyHealing of intraoral wounds closed using silk sutures and isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate glue: a comparative clinical and histologic study.
To compare the clinical and histologic healing of intraoral wounds closed using No. 3-0 silk suture with that obtained with isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate glue. ⋯ On the seventh postoperative day, both clinical and histologic indicators of inflammation were higher on the sutured side, but these indicators had reached similar values on the fourteenth postoperative day on both the sutured and glued sides. This suggests that isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate may aid initial healing.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA comparison of a new skin closure device and intradermal sutures in the closure of full-thickness surgical incisions.
A novel topical skin adhesive system was developed to close the outermost layer of skin in an expeditious manner. To determine its clinical utility, a clinical investigation was undertaken to demonstrate equivalence of a new adhesive skin closure system (Prineo Skin Closure System) to intradermal sutures in wound closure. ⋯ The Prineo Skin Closure System can be considered equivalent to intradermal sutures for full-thickness surgical incisions with regard to safety and effectiveness. The ease and speed of application contribute to shortened operative times (4.5 times faster than intradermal sutures).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffect of triclosan-coated sutures on the incidence of surgical wound infection after lower limb revascularization surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
Surgical wound infection (SWI) is a common complication after peripheral vascular surgery. In a prospective study, triclosan-coated sutures were reported to decrease the incidence of surgical site infection after various surgical procedures. The aim of our study was to test the hypothesis that use of triclosan-coated sutures decreases the incidence of SWI after lower limb vascular surgery. ⋯ The use of triclosan-coated sutures does not reduce the incidence of SWI after lower limb vascular surgery.
