To compare the effects of sutures and staples for skin closure of surgical wounds. ⋯ Due to the lack of high quality evidence, we could not state if sutures are better than staples in terms of wound infection, readmission rate, adverse events, and postoperative pain. With a low quality of evidence, sutures reduce postoperative pain and improve grade of satisfaction with the cosmetic outcome.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Barbed suture versus traditional suture in primary total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.
Barbed suture has been widely used in some surgical fields, and it has achieved good results, but the application in total knee arthroplasty is still controversial. ⋯ Our study shows that barbed suture is a fast, low-cost, safe and effective suture method in total knee arthroplasty compared with traditional suture, we also need more literature and longer follow-up to confirm this conclusion.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudySuture versus screw fixation technique for tibial eminence fracture: A meta-analysis of laboratory studies.
The aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties between the suture fixation technique and the screw fixation technique for tibial eminence fracture (TEF). ⋯ The FiberWire suture fixation may be biomechanically superior to a single screw fixation in TEF treatment in mature knees regarding ultimate failure load, while no significant difference was found between the two fixations in terms of stiffness and displacement after the cyclic testing.

Surgical site infections (SSIs) represent a common and serious complication of all surgical interventions. Microorganisms are able to colonise sutures that are implanted in the skin, which is a causative factor of SSIs. Triclosan-coated sutures are antibacterial sutures aimed at reducing SSIs. Our objective is to update the existing literature by systematically reviewing available evidence to assess the effectiveness of triclosan-coated sutures in the prevention of SSIs. ⋯ CRD42014014856.

Meta Analysis
Are endoscopic loop ties safe even in complicated acute appendicitis? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Appendectomy is amongst the most common general surgical procedures and the laparoscopic approach is recognized and recommended by international guidelines as a valid option. The different closure techniques of the appendicular stump constitute a matter of debate since their possible implication in determining postoperative infectious complications. The aim of the present meta-analysis is to compare endostapler versus endoscopic loop ties for stump closure during laparoscopic appendectomy. ⋯ In complicated acute appendicitis the stump closure technique did not affect outcomes; the use of endostapler seems to be associated to a reduction of wound infection rate in pediatric patients with non-complicated acute appendicitis.
