Perceived parenting and psychological well-being in UK ethnic minority adolescents.
Warm, caring parenting with appropriate supervision and control is considered to contribute to the best mental health outcomes for young people. The extent to which this view on 'optimal' parenting and health applies across ethnicities, warrants further attention. We examined associations between perceived parental care and parental control and psychological well-being among ethnically diverse UK adolescents. ⋯ Perceived quality of parenting is a correlate of psychological difficulties score for all ethnic groups despite differences in reporting. It is therefore likely that programmes supporting parenting will be effective regardless of ethnicity.

Prevalence and correlates of mental disorders in Israeli adolescents: results from a national mental health survey.
The development of epidemiological instruments has enabled the assessment of mental disorders in youth in countries that plan policy according to evidence-based principles. The Israel Survey of Mental Health among Adolescents (ISMEHA) was conducted in 2004-2005 in a representative sample of 957 adolescents aged 14-17 and their mothers. ⋯ The risk and protective factors related to internalizing and externalizing disorders are interpreted within the framework of family composition in this multicultural society.

Mental health and posttraumatic stress symptoms 2 years after severe multiple trauma: self-reported disability and psychosocial functioning.
To describe mental health and posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) for patients with severe multiple trauma at 2 years postinjury. Further, objectives were to examine relationships between PTSS and factors related to the person, injury, and postinjury physical and psychosocial functioning from the time of return home to 2 years after injury. The final aim was to identify predictors of PTSS and mental health at 2 years. ⋯ Twenty percent had a PTSS-High score indicating PTSD at 2 years postinjury. The personal factors sex (female), younger age, and avoidant coping and the functional factors pain, mental health, and cognitive functioning predicted PTSS at 2 years.

Area deprivation affects behavioral problems of young adolescents in mixed urban and rural areas: the TRAILS study.
Behavioral problems occur more frequently among adolescents in deprived areas, but most evidence concerns urbanized areas. Our aim was to assess the impact of area deprivation and urbanization on the occurrence and development of behavioral problems among adolescents in a mixed urban and rural area and to examine the contributory factors. ⋯ As in highly urbanized areas, behavioral problems occur more frequently among adolescents in deprived mixed rural and urban areas. Urbanization has little effect on these area differences.

The aim of this article is turning readers' attention to the scope of health problems related to mental disorders by presentation of selected areas of mental health in global perspective. Article presents data concerning mental disorders' prevalence in the world and data on selected aspects of public mental health, e. g. mental health policies in WHO regions. Selected WHO mental health projects and initiatives are presented.
