Prolongation of treatment package time is strongly associated with inferior oncologic outcomes. We examine the effect of creation of a multidisciplinary head and neck clinic on treatment package times. ⋯ Colocalization of radiation oncology and otolaryngology care in multidisciplinary clinic substantially improved time to postoperative radiotherapy and treatment package times. This is likely due to the identification of patients requiring adjuvant radiation earlier in their clinical presentation which in turn allowed for advanced planning and minimization of delays in initiation of adjuvant radiation.

The incidence of airborne respiratory infections fell as a result of the protective measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and rose again when these were stopped. In 2022, there was a notable rise in invasive group A streptococcal (iGAS) infections in many countries, including Germany. This rise was also reflected in the data of the university otorhinolaryngology department in Ulm, Germany. ⋯ The reduced confrontation of the immune system with pathogens during the pandemic, along with the increased incidence of viral airway infections immediately after it, apparently accounted for the exceptionally high post-pandemic rise in iGAS infections and the increase in invasive pulmonary diseases in Europe. Consistent vaccination programs against coincident respiratory viruses could reduce the burden of iGAS infections. The further extension of multinational surveillance programs with obligatory participation could aid in the detection of factors affecting the course of disease and the spread of new bacterial strains.

To analyze the existing literature on the prevalence of psychological symptoms in healthcare workers (HCWs) in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The review will evaluate the assessment methods used for measuring the prevalence of psychological symptoms and critically review the literature's findings concerning psychological support for HCWs. ⋯ This review's findings provide valuable insights into the psychological symptoms experienced by HCWs during the pandemic. To ensure the consistency of the results, it is essential to reevaluate the prevalence of these symptoms and use a culturally sensitive approach to translating the measures. This review lays the groundwork for future research on psychological symptoms and the interpretation of measurement outcomes.PROSPERO No. ID: CRD42024479813.

ReviewWhat are the clinical and research lessons learned from immunomodulators and other therapies during the COVID-19 pandemic?
The development and use of immunomodulators and other therapies during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic provided several lessons with respect to these therapies, and to how medical researchers and clinicians should approach the next pandemic. ⋯ The next new and emerging pandemic will undoubtedly share many of the same challenges posed by COVID-19. It is important that researchers and clinicians learn from this experience, adhere to tried and true clinical care, all the while conducting high quality research aimed at developing definitive treatments.
