Back to the future: lethal respiratory pandemics in New Guinea.
Lethal respiratory epidemics have torn through Papua New Guinea (PNG) since records began in the 19th century. Such historical epidemics were likely caused by influenza but often exacerbated by secondary bacterial pneumonias. ⋯ This pre-independence crisis was met by a major deployment of the Australian Defence Force personnel and aircraft. Currently, vaccination efforts aided by the Australian Government are trying to cope with the COVID-19 crisis.

Access to antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B during COVID-19.
Hepatitis B is an important public health concern. Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic is a major challenge for health systems, and the access to pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of chronic diseases, such as hepatitis B, may have been affected due to the contingency measures. This study aimed to evaluate the access to antiviral therapy during the ongoing pandemic. ⋯ This study contributes to the rationalization of efforts in a public health crisis through the identification of groups with the highest risk of poor access to antiviral therapy and the demonstration of the benefits of a medication delivery system.

We wanted to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the treatment and rehabilitation of these patients. ⋯ Shorter treatment due to the COVID-19 pandemic did not have a statistically significant effect on the achieved knee flexion, but we noticed a reduction in the number of patients referred to our ward after knee arthroscopy (Tab. 6, Ref. 14).

COVID-19 Vaccination Acceptance and Its Associated Factors Among the Iraqi Population: A Cross Sectional Study.
The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic poses a serious threat to countless lives. Development of an efficient vaccination can help end the pandemic. Vaccine hesitancy/refusal is a huge issue that could stymie attempts to combat the disease. The goal of this study is to examine COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in Iraq where at the end of July 2021, only 7.4% of the population was vaccinated. ⋯ Participants showed high acceptance toward COVID-19 vaccination, nevertheless more efforts should be applied to overcome barriers mentioned by the participants.

The COVID-19 pandemic generated an overload of the health system and mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion of workers. Previous studies have reported elevated levels of burnout syndrome in healthcare workers. The objective of the study was to estimate the prevalence and associated factors of burnout syndrome in healthcare workers. ⋯ In the multivariate analysis, the variables that were independently associated with the burnout syndrome were: being a physician (OR = 8.9; 95% CI: 1.1-71; p: 0.041) and being a respiratory kinesiologist (OR = 137.5; 95% CI: 2-262; p 0.001). The prevalence of burnout syndrome in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic was high. Mainly in respiratory kinesiologists and physicians.
