Case ReportsExtradural hematoma complicating arachnoid cyst--case report.
A 37-year-old man is reported with post-traumatic extradural hematoma complicating an arachnoid cyst in the middle cranial fossa. While subdural and intracystic hemorrhages are well-known complications from this malformation, the association with extradural hematoma has only been reported in three cases in the literature. We describe a case occurring after head injury and discuss the etiology and treatment.

Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma causing paraplegia: resolution and recovery without surgical decompression.
Spontaneous spinal epidural hematomas are well-recognized but rare entities. The standard treatment for these hematomas has been prompt surgical evacuation. The authors report a case of a 76-year-old man who precipitously became paraplegic secondary to a spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma and then experienced the complete resolution of his neurological deficit and the hematoma. We conclude that conservative (nonoperative) management of spontaneous spinal epidural hematomas may be appropriate in those instances in which there is early and sustained neurological recovery confirmed by radiological resolution of the lesion.

Page kidney: case report and review of the literature.
Page kidney is caused by the accumulation of blood in the perinephric or subcapsular space, resulting in compression of the involved kidney, renal ischemia, and high renin hypertension. Most patients are young hypertensives with a remote history of blunt trauma to the abdomen or back. We describe a case of acute Page kidney following a renal biopsy in a patient with underlying IgA nephropathy. ⋯ Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and ultrasound were valuable in making this diagnosis. Medical and surgical therapeutic options were considered. This report also reviews all previously described cases of Page kidney.

A young woman who sustained severe head trauma presented to the operating room for emergent surgical intervention. Her electrocardiogram (ECG) exhibited signs of myocardial ischemia, which resolved several days postoperatively. ECG changes suggestive of cardiac pathology can be associated with intracranial pathology, most notably subarachnoid hemorrhage. ⋯ Continuous ECG monitoring is essential. Ventricular dysrhythmias may prove resistant to conventional pharmaceutical management. Beta blockade may be indicated to prevent excessive cardiac stimulation by endogenous catecholamines, and, in addition, may prevent the formation of the microscopic cardiac lesions typical of this hyperstimulation.
