Randomized Controlled TrialFunctional outcome, cognition and quality of life after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and therapeutic hypothermia: data from a randomized controlled trial.
To study functional neurologic and cognitive outcome and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in a cohort of patients included in a randomised controlled trial on glucose control following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) from ventricular fibrillation (VF) treated with therapeutic hypothermia. ⋯ Functional outcome six months after OHCA and therapeutic hypothermia was good in the great majority of the survivors, and half of them were cognitively intact. Of note, the HRQoL of CA survivors did not differ from that of age- and gender matched population.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Observational StudyInterposed abdominal compression-cardiopulmonary resuscitation after cardiac surgery.
The management of cardiac arrest after cardiac surgery differs from the management of cardiac arrest under other circumstances. In other studies, interposed abdominal compression-cardiopulmonary resuscitation (IAC-CPR) resulted in a better outcome compared with conventional CPR. The aim of the present study was to determine the feasibility, safety and efficacy of IAC-CPR compared with conventional CPR in patients with cardiac arrest after cardiac surgery. ⋯ IAC-CPR is feasible and safe and may be advantageous in cases of cardiac arrest after cardiac surgery.

HyperOxic Therapy OR NormOxic Therapy after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (HOT OR NOT): A randomised controlled feasibility trial.
To investigate the feasibility of delivering titrated oxygen therapy to adults with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) caused by ventricular fibrillation (VF) or ventricular tachycardia (VT). ⋯ Titration of oxygen in the pre-hospital period following OHCA was not feasible; it may be feasible to titrate oxygen safely after arrival in hospital.

Feasibility study of immediate pharyngeal cooling initiation in cardiac arrest patients after arrival at the emergency room.
Cooling the pharynx and upper oesophagus would be more advantageous for rapid induction of therapeutic hypothermia since the carotid arteries run in their vicinity. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of pharyngeal cooling on brain temperature and the safety and feasibility for patients under resuscitation. ⋯ Initiation of pharyngeal cooling before or immediately after the return of spontaneous circulation is safe and feasible. Pharyngeal cooling can rapidly decrease tympanic temperature without adverse effects on circulation or the pharyngeal epithelium.

Randomized Controlled TrialChest compression with kneeling posture in hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A randomised crossover simulation study.
We suggest an alternative chest compression (CC) in kneeling posture using a 'kneeling stool' on which the performer kneels beside the patient on a bed in-hospital. In kneeling posture, we can maintain high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without the bed height adjustment, which is necessary and inconvenient in standing posture. ⋯ A kneeling posture with a kneeling stool were preferred by participants, which have shown similar results in CC parameters and VAS with a standing posture on a stepstool with bed height adjustment during in-hospital CPR.
