As an important downstream factor in the Hippo pathway, yes-associated protein 1(YAP1) has been detected to be elevated in various cancers and demonstrated to play a role in tumor development. Therefore, we evaluated by a meta-analysis the prognostic value of YAP1 in cancer patients. ⋯ We searched for potential publications in several online databases and retrieved relevant data. Overall and subgroup analyses were performed. Begg's and Egger's tests were used to assess publication bias. Online dataset GEPIA was used to generate the survival curves and verify the prognostic role of YAP1 in patients with tumors.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) induces an acute alteration in bone metabolism. Although the aetiology of the bone disturbances is not precisely known, immobilisation reduces mechanical loading and the morphology of osteocytes, which are the primary mechanosensors. Periostin and sclerostin are secreted mostly by osteocytes and are involved in bone's mechanical response. ⋯ This study showed for the first time that individuals with SCI presented higher periostin levels than healthy controls only during the acute phase. Conversely, sclerostin levels are lower whatever the post-injury time. Fractures and densitometric osteoporosis were not associated with differences in these two biological markers, whereas paraplegia vs. tetraplegia and fragility fracture status seemed to influence sclerostin levels only.

Wnt signaling pathways regulate osteoblast differentiation and bone formation and are associated with inflammatory responses driven by innate and adaptive immunity via the NF-κB pathway. The aim of this study was to compare the levels of sclerostin (SOST), WNT-5a, and TNF-α between chronic periodontitis and periodontally healthy sites and determine their value as diagnostic markers of chronic periodontitis. ⋯ Sclerostin and WNT-5a gingival protein levels demonstrated a high diagnostic value for generalized moderate and severe chronic periodontitis, while a low accuracy was detected for localized chronic periodontitis.

LPS-responsive beige -like anchor protein (LRBA) deficiency is a primary immunodeficiency disease caused by loss of LRBA protein expression, due to biallelic mutations in LRBA gene. LRBA deficiency patients exhibit a clinically heterogeneous syndrome. The main clinical complication of LRBA deficiency is immune dysregulation. Furthermore, hypogammaglobulinemia is found in more than half of patients with LRBA-deficiency. To date, no patients with this condition have been reported in Colombia. ⋯ LRBA expression varies greatly between different healthy donors and patients. Reduction LRBA-expression in 6 patients without homozygous mutations in LRBA or in associated genes with the immune system was observed. These results suggest the other genetic, epigenetic or environmental mechanisms, that might be regulated the LRBA-expression.
