Can simvastatin improve erectile function and health-related quality of life in men aged >40 years with erectile dysfunction? Rationale and design of the Erectile Dysfunction and Statins (EDS) Trial [ISRCTN66772971](1).
What's known on the subject? and What will the study add? Erectile dysfunction is often associated with endothelial dysfunction. It is also recognized as a marker for underlying vascular disease. This study tests the hypothesis that statin therapy may improve erectile function and also reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events via a reduction in serum cholesterol and by improving endothelial function. The study will also determine whether the treatment improves quality of life related to sexual function. ⋯ • If simvastatin improves erectile function it would provide an inexpensive treatment for ED suitable for most men, and reduce the risk of future CVD.

Improved sexual function with testosterone replacement therapy in hypogonadal men: real-world data from the Testim Registry in the United States (TRiUS).
Up to 30% of erectile dysfunction (ED) patients treated with phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors do not show improved sexual function, which may be due in part to low serum testosterone. Hypogonadal patients already receiving testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) likewise can still suffer from symptoms of sexual dysfunction. In these patient populations, augmenting with, or switching, TRT treatment may improve sexual function. ⋯ In hypogonadal patients, 12-month administration of topical testosterone gel resulted in increased TT and FT levels and significantly improved sexual function. All subgroups studied, including men taking PDE5 inhibitors for ED and those previously on TRT, demonstrated significant improvement in sexual function from baseline scores.

Physician and patient satisfaction with the new AMS 700 momentary squeeze inflatable penile prosthesis.
A single-armed, prospective, multicenter study evaluated the redesigned American Medical Systems (AMS) 700 Momentary Squeeze (MS) pump inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) with enhanced features for ease of implantation and patient manipulation. The device incorporates design changes to all components: pump, cylinders, rear-tip extenders, and reservoir. ⋯ The new AMS 700 MS IPP seems a distinct improvement over previous devices with most physicians feeling implantation and patient instruction were easier. The device also satisfied 86% of the users and virtually eliminated autoinflation.

Overactive bladder is associated with erectile dysfunction and reduced sexual quality of life in men.
The prevalence of sexual dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction (ED), is greater in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), including overactive bladder (OAB), than in men without LUTS. ⋯ OAB, as defined by the ICS, was significantly associated with increased prevalence of ED, reduced sexual activity and sexual enjoyment because of urinary symptoms, and reduced sexual satisfaction.

Effect of sildenafil citrate on the male sexual experience assessed with the Sexual Experience Questionnaire: a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with open-label extension.
The Sexual Experience Questionnaire (SEX-Q) enables quick and easy assessment of functional, emotional, and satisfaction-related aspects of the sexual experience in men with erectile dysfunction (ED). ⋯ SEX-Q change scores correlate with several other functional, emotional, and satisfaction-related outcomes in men treated with sildenafil for ED, allowing a simple and focused evaluation of the sexual experience.
