With recent research trying to explore the pathophysiologic mechanisms behind vasospasm, newer pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments are being targeted at various pathways involved. This review is aimed at understanding the mechanisms and current and future therapies available to treat vasospasm. ⋯ Endovascular therapy has shown consistent benefit in relieving vasospasm. An aggressive combination therapy through various routes seems to be the most useful approach to reduce the complications of vasospasm.

The New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NRCMS) covers 900 million farmers (about 95%) in China, but its fund is at serious risk of deficit. Shanghai, one of the developed cities in China, has developed its Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme and NRCMS as an advanced and exemplary representative of Chinese rural health insurance. The participating rate of NRCMS was 99·90% in Pudong New Area in 2015, which meant 277 310 farmers were involved, accounting for 29% of Shanghai's participants. Pudong New Area of Shanghai implemented NRCMS capitation reform in August, 2012, aimed at controlling the increasing medical costs for farmers and avoid risk to the NRCMS's fund. We aimed to assess long-term effect of the reform. ⋯ National Nature Science Foundation of China (#71503170; for data interpretation), Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning (#201440036, #2016HP009; for data collection and analysis).

Sustained viral suppression through antiretroviral therapy (ART) reduces the risk of sexual HIV transmission. However, it can require routine access to reliable and effective medical care, which can be difficult to obtain in resource-constrained areas. We investigated the effects of patient load and travel distance to an HIV care clinic on transmission risk in HIV serodiscordant couples in the Henan Province, China. ⋯ Ministry of Science and Technology, People's Republic of China, National Institutes of Health of the USA.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness and impaired vision worldwide; however, cataract surgery rate in China (1300 cases per million people per year) is lower than in Europe, America, and India (greater than 5000 cases per million people per year). In the past 10 years, a public health screening system has been established for early diagnosis and intervention of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension by the Disease Control and Prevention Centers (CDC) of China. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of screening for cataract on surgery rates in Guangdong, China. ⋯ National Nature Science Foundation of China (No: 81570843).

The aim of this study is to examine, by a prospective randomized controlled trial, the influence of liberal (LIB) vs restricted (RES) perioperative fluid administration on morbidity following pancreatectomy. ⋯ In a high volume institution, major perioperative complications from pancreatic resection were not significantly influenced by fluid regimens that differed approximately 1.6-fold.
