The Impact of Cold Spray and Ice Application During Intravenous Access on Pain and Fear in Children Aged 7-15 Years in the Pediatric Emergency Unit: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Many strategies have been developed to prevent procedural pain in pediatric emergency units, where nurses play a vital role in ensuring patient comfort. Easy-to-use and inexpensive nonpharmacologic analgesic methods are important in emergency units. This study was conducted to determine the effect of cold spray and ice applied during venipuncture on the level of fear and pain in children aged 7 to 15 years. ⋯ In conclusion, cold spray applied during intravenous access in children aged 7 to 15 effectively reduces pain and fear and should be used in the emergency unit.

Solar-powered O2 delivery for the treatment of children with hypoxaemia in Uganda: a stepped-wedge, cluster randomised controlled trial.
Supplemental O2 is not always available at health facilities in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Solar-powered O2 delivery can overcome gaps in O2 access, generating O2 independent of grid electricity. We hypothesized that installation of solar-powered O2 systems on the paediatrics ward of rural Ugandan hospitals would lead to a reduction in mortality among hypoxaemic children. ⋯ Grand Challenges Canada and The Women and Children's Health Research Institute.

Safety and efficacy of malaria vaccine candidate R21/Matrix-M in African children: a multicentre, double-blind, randomised, phase 3 trial.
Recently, we found that a new malaria vaccine, R21/Matrix-M, had over 75% efficacy against clinical malaria with seasonal administration in a phase 2b trial in Burkina Faso. Here, we report on safety and efficacy of the vaccine in a phase 3 trial enrolling over 4800 children across four countries followed for up to 18 months at seasonal sites and 12 months at standard sites. ⋯ The Serum Institute of India, the Wellcome Trust, the UK National Institute for Health Research Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, and Open Philanthropy.

Term planned delivery based on fetal growth assessment with or without the cerebroplacental ratio in low-risk pregnancies (RATIO37): an international, multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial.
The cerebroplacental ratio is associated with perinatal mortality and morbidity, but it is unknown whether routine measurement improves pregnancy outcomes. Effects of 6-month customized home-based exercise on motor development, bone strength, and parental stress in children with simple congenital heart disease: a single-blinded randomized clinical trial.
New "noncardiac" problems in children with congenital heart disease (CHD), such as developmental delay or long-term neurodevelopmental impairments, have attracted considerable attention in recent years. It is hypothesized that exercise might attenuate CHD-associated neurodevelopmental impairments; however, this has not been thoroughly investigated. The objective of this prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled experiment was to evaluate the impact of customized home-based exercise for children with CHD. ⋯ Customized home-based exercise improved motor development in children with CHD. While the long-term effects of parent training in home-based exercise are unknown, the study results suggest positive outcomes.
