Development and validation of a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients: A prospective, observational, single-center study.
Postoperative delirium is a serious complication that relates to poor outcomes. A risk prediction model could help the staff screen for children at high risk for postoperative delirium. Our study aimed to establish a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients and to verify the sensitivity and specificity of this model. ⋯ The model verification results showed the sensitivity of 0.667, the specificity of 0.955. Children undergoing surgery are at risk for developing delirium during the postoperative period, young age, developmental delay, otorhinolaryngology surgery, pain, and exposure to dexmedetomidine were associated with increased odds of delirium. Our study established a postoperative delirium prediction model for pediatric patients, which may be a base for development of strategies to prevent and treat postoperative delirium in children.

Review Meta AnalysisSingle-dose intravenous ketorolac for acute postoperative pain in adults.
Postoperative pain is common and may be severe. Postoperative administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) reduces patient opioid requirements and, in turn, may reduce the incidence and severity of opioid-induced adverse events (AEs). ⋯ The amount and certainty of evidence for the use of intravenous ketorolac as a treatment for postoperative pain varies across efficacy and safety outcomes and amongst comparators, from very low to moderate. The available evidence indicates that postoperative intravenous ketorolac administration may offer substantial pain relief for most patients, but further research may impact this estimate. Adverse events appear to occur at a slightly higher rate in comparison to placebo and to other NSAIDs. Insufficient information is available to assess whether intravenous ketorolac has a different rate of gastrointestinal or surgical-site bleeding, renal dysfunction, or cardiovascular events versus other NSAIDs. There was a lack of studies in cardiovascular surgeries and in elderly populations who may be at increased risk for adverse events.

Comparison of Postoperative Pain Management Outcomes in the United States and China.
To compare pain management outcomes in postoperative patients from an American hospital and a Chinese hospital. A convenience sample of 244 patients in the United States and 268 patients in China with similar surgical sites completed the American Pain Society Patient Outcome Questionnaire-Revised (APS-POQ-R) and the Pain Management Index (PMI) was calculated on their first postoperative day. ⋯ A higher level of compliance with pain management guidelines has contributed to a higher level of perception in patients in the United States. Establishing procedure-specific protocols and clinical pathways may improve pain management outcomes for Chinese patients.

Efficacy and safety of acupoint catgut embedding in treating postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoids: A randomized controlled trial protocol.
Pain is a common complication after mixed hemorrhoids, which seriously affects the recovery of patients and prolongs the length of hospital stay. Acupoint catgut embedding has advantages in improving a variety of acute and chronic pain diseases, but there is still a lack of rigorous randomized controlled studies to verify its efficacy and safety in the treatment of postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoids. Therefore, the purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding in the treatment of postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoids. ⋯ This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupoint catgut embedding in the treatment of postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoids, and the results of this study will provide a new idea for the selection of postoperative analgesia for mixed hemorrhoids resection.

Effect of ultrasound-guided pulsed radiofrequency on intercostal neuralgia after lung cancer surgery: A retrospective study.
This retrospective study investigated the effect of ultrasound-guided pulsed radiofrequency (UGPRF) on intercostal neuralgia (ICN) after lung cancer surgery (LCS). This retrospective observational study analyzed the outcome data of UGPRF on ICN in 80 patients with LCS. All those patients were allocated into a treatment group (n = 40) and a control group (n = 40). ⋯ After treatment, patients in the treatment group showed better outcomes in NRS (P < .01), PSQI (P < .01), and anesthetic consumption (P < .01), than patients in the control group. No treatment-related adverse events were documented in both groups in this study. The results of this study found that UGPRF may benefit patients for pain relief of ICN after LCS.
