Acute postoperative hypertension (APH) is a common complication during the anesthesia recovery period that can lead to adverse outcomes, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular accidents. Identification of risk factors for APH will allow for preoperative optimization and appropriate perioperative management. This study aimed to identify risk factors for APH. ⋯ The risk of acute postoperative hypertension increased with age over 65 years, female patients, intraoperative hypertension and restlessness during anesthesia recovery. Intraoperative use of dexmedetomidine was a protective factor for APH.

Oxycodone vs. tramadol in postoperative parent-controlled intravenous analgesia in children: a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, multiple-center clinical trial.
Management of acute postoperative pain is one of the major challenges in pediatric patients. Oral oxycodone has shown good pain relief in postoperative pain relief in children, but no studies have investigated intravenous oxycodone in this context. ⋯ an adequate postoperative analgesia can be achieved with intravenous oxycodone, this with less side effects than tramadol. It can therefore be a choice for postoperative pain relief in pediatric patients.

To investigate the effect of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and Oxygen Nebuliser mask (ONM) on patients recovering from inhalation anesthesia. ⋯ Compared with ONM, HFNC can shorten postoperative recovery time, reduce the incidence of agitation and improve lung function and oxygenation state during recovery from anesthesia.

Effects of melatonin on postoperative sleep quality: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and trial sequential analysis.
Postoperative sleep disturbances are common. Although several studies have examined the effect of melatonin on postoperative sleep disturbances, the results have not reached any definitive conclusion. We sought to conduct a systematic review to compare the effects of melatonin and melatonin agonists on postoperative sleep quality with those of placebo or no treatment in adult patients who underwent surgery under general or regional anesthesia. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42020180167); registered 27 October 2022.

Nalbuphine reduces the incidence of emergence agitation in children undergoing Adenotonsillectomy: A prospective, randomized, double-blind, multicenter study.
To evaluate the effect of nalbuphine on emergence agitation (EA) in children undergoing adenotonsillectomy. ⋯ Nalbuphine reduced the incidence of EA in children after adenotonsillectomy under general anesthesia, which may be involved in both analgesic and non-analgesic pathways.
