Association of reintubation and hospital costs and its modification by postoperative surveillance: A multicenter retrospective cohort study.
We estimated hospital costs associated with postoperative reintubation and tested the hypothesis that prolonged surveillance in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) modifies the hospital costs of reintubation. ⋯ Postoperative reintubation is associated with 2-fold higher hospital costs. Prolonged surveillance in the recovery room mitigated this effect. The cost-saving effect of longer PACU length of stay was likely driven by earlier reintubation in patients who needed this intervention.

Effect of dexamethasone and ramosetron on the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in low-risk patients: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial.
Several studies have investigated the effect of antiemetics on postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in high-risk groups. However, few studies have investigated the effect of antiemetics in patients at low risk of developing PONV. ⋯ The combination of dexamethasone and ramosetron demonstrated a superior effect in preventing PONV for 48 h after surgery under general anesthesia than saline in patients at low risk of developing PONV. Compared with saline injections, ramosetron injections yielded better outcomes for the incidence of PONV and the use of rescue antiemetics and rescue analgesics 0-1 h postoperatively.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPrevalence of COVID-19 and Risk Factors for Infection Among Pediatric Anesthesia Patients: A Report From the PEACOC Research Network.
The Pediatric Anesthesia COVID-19 Collaborative (PEACOC) is a research network to advance the care of children during the pandemic. Here we calculate the prevalence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among children undergoing anesthesia, look at prevalence in the population data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and assess independent risk factors for infection. ⋯ Rates of COVID-19 in pediatric anesthesia patients were consistently lower than in the general population. Independent risk factors of a positive test for children were identified. This is the first time universal testing for a single infectious disease was undertaken on a wide scale. As such, the association of infection with surgical case type or emergency case status is unprecedented.

Oxycodone vs. tramadol in postoperative parent-controlled intravenous analgesia in children: a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, multiple-center clinical trial.
Management of acute postoperative pain is one of the major challenges in pediatric patients. Oral oxycodone has shown good pain relief in postoperative pain relief in children, but no studies have investigated intravenous oxycodone in this context. ⋯ an adequate postoperative analgesia can be achieved with intravenous oxycodone, this with less side effects than tramadol. It can therefore be a choice for postoperative pain relief in pediatric patients.
