Randomized Controlled Trial
The safety of early administration of oral fluid following general anesthesia in children undergoing tonsillectomy: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
The feasibility and safety of administrating a small amount of oral fluid to children in the early recovery period following tonsillectomy under general anesthesia to reduce the thirst and its associated restlessness remain unknown. ⋯ Early administration of a small amount of oral fluid to children following tonsillectomy and recovering from general anesthesia is not only safe but also effective in reducing postoperative thirst.

Randomized Controlled Trial
The impact of topical lidocaine and timing of LMA removal on the incidence of airway events during the recovery period in children: a randomized controlled trial.
The timing of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) removal remains undefined. This study aimed to assess the optimal timing for LMA removal and whether topical anesthesia with lidocaine could reduce airway adverse events. ⋯ LMA removal in the awake state after topical lidocaine anesthesia reduces the incidence of postoperative airway events.

Awake endovascular coiling of a dissected intracranial aneurysm in a third-trimester twin pregnancy: A case report.
Subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAHs) from ruptured intracranial aneurysms are very rare during pregnancy. Management of ruptured intracranial aneurysms with SAH in pregnancy is often challenging because of the risks to the fetus and the mother. We present the first successful awake endovascular coiling of a dissected intracranial aneurysm in a third trimester twin pregnancy. ⋯ Awake endovascular coiling was very beneficial in our case because we avoided general anesthesia and the use of osmotic diuretics which are potentially hazardous during pregnancy.

Hyperparathyroid crisis is a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of severe calcium intoxication. Parathyroidectomy is the only curative method for hyperparathyroid crisis. Several case reports and case series have been published on the medical and surgical treatments for hyperparathyroid crisis, however, few reports have focused on the associated perioperative anesthetic management. ⋯ Patients with hyperparathyroid crisis should undergo a thorough preoperative evaluation. Difficult airway, fluid depletion, multiple organ dysfunction, hypercoagulability, and concomitant diseases are the primary challenges in anesthetic management. After tumor removal, the serum calcium level should be monitored closely and calcium should be supplemented in a timely manner to prevent serious complications.

Anesthesiologists should obtain the best technique for cesarean section (CS). This study designed to compare the effect of general anesthesia (GA) and spinal anesthesia (SA) on immune system function in elective CS. ⋯ According to the angiogenesis properties of TGF-β, it seems that SA probably affects the rate of recovery more than that of the GA.
