Randomized Controlled TrialVentilatory performance of BASKA mask as an alternative to endotracheal intubation in short-term gynecologic laparoscopic procedures: a prospective randomized clinical trial.
Using laryngeal mask airways (LMAs) in laparoscopic surgery is still controversial because of the risk of insufficient ventilation and gastric overinflation. We investigated the use of BASKA LMA as an alternative to endotracheal intubation in low-risk females undergoing short-term gynecologic laparoscopic surgeries in Trendelenburg position under general anesthesia and positive pressure ventilation. ⋯ BASKA mask can be considered as a safe alternative to ETT with comparable ventilatory performance in low-risk females undergoing short-term gynecologic laparoscopic surgeries.

"Ventilatory Strategy to Prevent Atelectasis During Bronchoscopy Under General Anesthesia: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial" (VESPA Trial).
Atelectasis negatively influences peripheral bronchoscopy, increasing CT scan-body divergence, obscuring targets, and creating false-positive radial-probe endobronchial ultrasound (RP-EBUS) images. ⋯ VESPA significantly reduced the incidence of atelectasis, was well tolerated, and showed a sustained effect over time despite bronchoscopic nodal staging maneuvers. VESPA should be considered for bronchoscopy when atelectasis is to be avoided.

Detection method of intraoperative awareness: a randomized comparative study.
: The incidence of intraoperative awareness varies in a wide range in the literature. The reasons for these different results include the questioning method used and the questioning time. The goal of this study is to compare the effectiveness of different questioning methods and times used in intraoperative awareness research for detecting the incidence. ⋯ The incidence of intraoperative awareness in Group 1 was significantly higher than in Group 2 in the evaluation conducted in the first 2 h. There was no significant difference in the determination of intraoperative awareness between questioning times in group 1.

Randomized Controlled TrialHypobaric Unilateral Spinal Anesthesia Versus General Anesthesia for Hip Fracture Surgery in the Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Hypotension during surgery is frequent in the elderly population and is associated with acute kidney and myocardial injury, which are, themselves, associated with increased 30-day mortality. The present study compared the hemodynamic effects of hypobaric unilateral spinal anesthesia (HUSA) to general anesthesia (GA) in patients ≥70 years of age undergoing hip fracture surgery. ⋯ HUSA leads to fewer episodes of severe intraoperative hypotension compared to GA in an elderly population undergoing hip fracture surgery.
