Bardet-Biedl syndrome, which compromises airway management and the cardiovascular and renal systems, is a rare ciliopathic syndrome characterized by multisystem involvement and varying genetic etiologies and clinical manifestations. ⋯ Safe anesthetic management can be achieved with the rigorous preoperative assessment of perioperative complications.

Hydranencephaly is a rare and debilitating congenital condition in which most anesthesiologists are unfamiliar. Primary surgical treatment involves CSF diversion, though other palliative procedures requiring anesthesia are often required. With medical advancements and a resulting prolonged life expectancy, caring for these patients is becoming more routine. ⋯ Anticipation of difficult positioning, deliberate airway management, and attention to anesthetic recovery were all necessary to safely care for this patient. An understanding of the challenges this particular condition poses will help anesthesiologists provide the most safe and effective care when encountering these patients.

Comparison of ropivacaine plus sufentanil and ropivacaine plus dexmedetomidine for labor epidural analgesia: A randomized controlled trial protocol.
Effective analgesia during delivery can not only decrease pain, but also have a significant function in ensuring the safety of baby and mother. Sufentanil is generally used opioid with ropivacaine in epidural anesthesia in labor pain management; however it can cause some adverse reaction. Dexmedetomidine is an a2-adrenoceptor agonist with high selectivity. It possesses opioid-sparing and analgesic effects and it is suitable for the long-term and short-term intraoperative sedation. The purpose of this present study is to compare the analgesic effect of ropivacaine with dexmedetomidine against ropivacaine with sufentanyl in epidural labor. ⋯ This current work can provide a primary evidence regarding the clinical outcomes of dexmedetomidine versus sufentanil for labor epidural analgesia.

Factors affecting airway compliance and resistance in children receiving general anesthesia during adenotonsillectomy.
Airway compliance is an important index in the surgery of pediatric patients. This study aimed to explore factors affecting dynamic airway compliance (Cdyn) and airway resistance (Raw) after general anesthesia endotracheal intubation for adenotonsillectomy of pediatric patients. A prospective study was undertaken of 107 children who underwent adenotonsillectomy in Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine between January and June 2018. ⋯ Height was the factor with the strongest negative correlation with Raw (β= -0.382 to -0.305). Rales during pulmonary auscultation (β=10.063-11.326) and sputum suction (β=3.863-9.003) were also associated with Raw (All P < .05). Height, rales during preoperative auscultation and sputum suction were all associated with intraoperative Cydn and Raw for pediatric patients undergoing adenotonsillectomy and should be considered before the surgery.
