Does a two-minute mini-fluid challenge predict fluid responsiveness in pediatric patients under general anesthesia?
Very little evidence for predictive markers of fluid responsiveness has been reported in children as compared to adults. The impact of hypovolemia or hypervolemia on morbidity has driven interest in the fluid challenge titration strategy. ⋯ ΔVTIminiFC weakly predicted the effects of a fluid challenge of 15 mL kg-1 of crystalloid in anesthetized children under controlled mechanical ventilation.

Utilization and Outcomes of Local Anesthesia and Peripheral Nerve Block for Hybrid Lower Extremity Revascularization.
Purpose: To investigate the utilization of local anesthesia or peripheral nerve block with monitored anesthesia care (LPMAC) and its impact on the perioperative outcomes of hybrid lower extremity revascularization (LER) compared with general anesthesia (GA). Materials and Methods: A search of the ACS-NSQIP database between 2005 and 2017 identified 9430 patients who underwent hybrid LER for peripheral artery disease. Excluding 449 ineligible cases left 8981 hybrid LER patients for analysis. ⋯ Conclusion: LPMAC is an infrequent anesthetic technique for hybrid LER and is primarily used for patients with a high burden of comorbidities. LPMAC is associated with reduced overall morbidity and operating time. Further studies are needed to identify which patients undergoing hybrid LER benefit most from LPMAC.

Effect of lung protective ventilation on perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with mild to moderate COPD under general anesthesia.
The research aims to explore the effects of different ventilation time on postoperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with the mild and moderate chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD), so as to provide evidence for reducing postoperative pulmonary infection complications in patients with COPD. ⋯ It is important to detect pulmonary function before surgery, maintain single lung ventilation protection for no more than 2.0h during surgery, and quit smoking to improve pulmonary infection in patients with COPD after surgery. In addition, the incidence of postoperative pulmonary infection in patients with moderate COPD was higher than that in patients with mild COPD, suggesting that early treatment in patients with COPD was also of great significance in reducing the incidence of postoperative pulmonary infection.

Inhibitory concentration of propofol in combination with dexmedetomidine during microelectrode recording for deep brain stimulator insertion surgeries under general anesthesia.
Microelectrode recording (MER) for target refinement is widely used in deep brain stimulator insertion for Parkinson disease. Signals may be influenced by anesthetics when patients receive general anesthesia (GA). This study determined the inhibitory concentration (IC) of propofol on MER signals when it was coadministered with dexmedetomidine. ⋯ Our data provided reference values of propofol for dosage adjustment to avoid interference on MER under GA when anesthetics have to be continuously infused during recording.
