Call to action: equity, diversity, and inclusion in emergency medicine resident physician selection.
This call to action seeks to improve emergency care in Canada for equity-deserving communities, enabled by equitable representation among emergency physicians nationally. Specifically, this work describes current resident selection processes and makes recommendations to enhance the equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) of resident physician selection in Canadian emergency medicine (EM) residency programs. ⋯ We call on Canadian EM training programs to implement these eight recommendations to strengthen EDI practices in EM resident physician selection and, in doing so, help to improve the care that patients from equity-deserving groups receive in Canada's emergency departments (EDs).

Advance care planning is rare among older adults with a migration background because of social, cultural, and religious reasons. ⋯ Healthcare providers in Belgium should provide tailored information about advance care planning to Turkish-origin adults with palliative care needs. Advance care planning discussions should also explore the individual's health-related knowledge and personal values, paying attention to social and religious cues. Healthcare professionals should also recognise the salience of Turkish families in end-of-life care.

Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is when antidepressants do not work and affects 55% of British primary care users with depression. People with TRD should be referred to secondary care but there are long wait times. This means most people are managed by GPs, but primary care guidelines are not standardised. Thus, how GPs manage people with TRD may vary, and there is limited evidence for how quality care may look. As a result of this variation, an investigation into how GPs manage people might be valuable. ⋯ TRD can be a contested diagnosis in the same way as ADHD, ME, and long-COVID. GP training and continuing professional development may support GP awareness of TRD and help them in confidently making the diagnosis.

Primary care professionals deliver the majority of end-of-life care to patients. However, extensive pressures and constraints can contribute to variable and substandard care quality. We will report on the preliminary results from an independent evaluation of the 'Daffodil Standards for Advanced Serious Illness and End-of-Life Care', created by the Royal College of General Practitioners and Marie Curie. ⋯ The results will be used to inform and refine the design illustrative case studies to capture best available learning and identify exemplars of best practice for later phases of the study.

Since autumn 2022, 6.5% of the newly assigned medical students in Hessia, Germany (Universities of Marburg, Frankfurt, and Gießen) receive admission to medical studies under the condition to pursue their future careers in the field of general practice in a rural area. Students are bound by contract to work in general practice for at least 10 years and will receive special extracurricular training during their studies at the university. Nationally, this system is without comparison. ⋯ We have mainly found similarities on the three main factors in all interviewed groups, yet different perspectives result in varying prioritisations.
