Perspectives of Caregivers on Children Boarding With Mental Health Conditions.
Addressing the acute mental healthcare needs of children is a national crisis. Despite the ongoing crisis, there are limited prior studies that capture caregiver perspectives on acute pediatric mental healthcare, notably in a general emergency department (ED) in a rural state. Based on these knowledge gaps, our objective was to assess caregiver opinions and perspectives of acute management for children boarding with mental health conditions. ⋯ Caregivers face considerable challenges in attaining timely and appropriate acute mental health care for their children. Immediate and innovative resource allocation is needed across the healthcare continuum to bolster the acute mental healthcare services currently offered to children and families, especially in the general ED setting.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major risk factor for the development of multiple cancers. Active duty service members have higher rates of HPV infection than civilians, while Veterans are diagnosed with a disproportionately high burden of HPV-associated cancers compared to civilians without prior service. While a highly effective HPV vaccine has been available for over a decade, vaccination rates in the United States remain suboptimal. The objective of this study was to investigate HPV vaccination rates among male and female Veterans compared with their non-Veteran counterparts. ⋯ Veterans of both sexes are more likely to be vaccinated than their non-Veteran civilian counterparts. However, vaccination rates overall remain low. To our knowledge, ours is the first study of its kind to establish HPV vaccination rates among female Veterans. These findings underscore the important role of DoD and VA health care systems in improving HPV vaccine uptake and mitigating HPV-associated cancer risk among Veterans.

Inclusion of patients in healthcare service and system planning is an increasingly important tool to improve healthcare systems worldwide. In 2012, a focused healthcare reform was initiated in Austria to strengthen the primary care sector which is still underway in 2023. ⋯ Appreciating and responding to patients' perceptions and needs, healthcare reform in Austria should include improvements regarding consultation/waiting time, coordination, and navigation in Primary Care. Successful healthcare reform has to include the patient voice.

Background An increasing number of pregnant women now take antidepressants. Many pregnant women experience 'decisional conflict' when deciding whether to take antidepressants, but little is known about the attitudes and experiences influencing these decisions. Aim To explore the attitudes and experiences influencing women's decisions about antenatal antidepressant use. ⋯ Conclusion Decision-making is a complex and dynamic process, personal to each woman's circumstances. Perceived ability to cope is an important factor in decision-making. Detailed information should be offered to women to support with decision-making in relation to antenatal medication use.
