The Use of a Fabricated Endotracheal Tube During an Acute Massive Pulmonary Hemorrhage: A Case Report.
A massive pulmonary hemorrhage is an emergency that can lead to airway compromise and cardiovascular collapse. The goals of airway management are to isolate and protect the nonbleeding lung while providing a route for interventions to diagnose and control the bleeding site. We present a case of an adult male with a lung mass who underwent a bronchoscopy and cryobiopsy that was complicated by a massive pulmonary hemorrhage. We report the successful use of an elongated fabricated end-to-end endotracheal tube to manage his airway during this time-critical situation.

A lightning strike is an extreme event with the highest mortality rate among electrical injuries. Death from a lightning strike is caused by either cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. ⋯ If transoral intubation is unsuccessful, an emergency cricothyrotomy should be considered. Our case report describes an emergency cricothyroidotomy performed in a harsh environment on a mountain 2300 m above sea level on a patient with extensive burns of his supraglottic structures, after being directly hit by a lightning strike.

Effects of right stellate ganglion block combined with topical anesthesia on heart rate variability in awake patients receiving tracheal intubation.
General anesthesia is commonly performed with tracheal intubation. We aimed to evaluate the effects of right stellate ganglion block combined with topical anesthesia on the heart rate variability in awake patients receiving tracheal intubation. ⋯ Right stellate ganglion block combined with topical anesthesia can work well for awake patients during tracheal intubation.
