Comparative Study Observational StudyEvaluation of the C-MAC Miller Video Laryngoscope Sizes 0 and 1 During Tracheal Intubation of Infants Less Than 10 kg.
Video laryngoscopy has primarily been developed to assist in difficult airways. Using video laryngoscopy in pediatric airway management is an up-and-coming topic. The aim of the presented study was to compare the intubation conditions obtained when using the C-MAC video laryngoscope with Miller blades sizes 0 and 1 for standard direct laryngoscopy and indirect laryngoscopy in children weighing less than 10 kg. ⋯ Both devices allowed for an excellent visualization of the vocal cords.

Endotracheal intubation is a common procedure performed by respiratory therapists (RTs). The purpose of this study was to describe current RT intubation practices in North Carolina through the use of a survey instrument. ⋯ RTs in North Carolina frequently performed intubation and had high confidence in their programs. Further studies are needed to establish standardized training for endotracheal intubation, document success rates for intubations, and evaluate the use of video laryngoscopy by RTs.

Tracheomalacia may be caused by long-standing compression of retrosternal goitre because of destruction of support of tracheal cartilages. Life-threatening airway collapses may occur after surgical removal of goitre. However, available literature on management methods of tracheomalacia is sparse. Our study highlights prolonged endotracheal intubation as a feasible treatment method. ⋯ Tracheomalacia is a rare but serious complication of retrosternal goitre surgery. Based on our experience, prolonged endotracheal intubation is a feasible treatment for tracheomalacia after retrosternal goitre surgery.
