Predicting a difficult airway, including difficult laryngoscopy, intubation or mask ventilation, is paramount in peri-operative management. As clinical predictors are only partially reliable, ultrasound-based measurements might be useful in evaluating anterior neck fat tissues depth. ⋯ CRD42021250574.

Success rate of prehospital emergency front-of-neck access (FONA): a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Front-of-neck access (FONA) is an emergency procedure used as a last resort to achieve a patent airway in the prehospital environment. In this systematic review with meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the number and success rate of FONA procedures in the prehospital setting, including changes since 2017, when a surgical technique was outlined as the first-line prehospital method. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42022348975.

Effect of inclined positioning on first-pass success during endotracheal intubation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Endotracheal intubation is a high-risk procedure. Optimisation of all aspects of the procedure, including patient positioning, is important to facilitate success and minimise complications. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the association between inclined patient positioning and first-pass success and other clinically important outcomes among patients undergoing endotracheal intubation. ⋯ This systematic review and meta-analysis found no evidence of benefit or harm with inclined versus supine patient positioning during endotracheal intubation in any setting.

ReviewTraumatic brain injury and RSI is rocuronium or succinylcholine preferred?
Traumatic brain injury is widespread and has significant morbidity and mortality. Patients with severe traumatic brain injury often necessitate intubation. The paralytic for rapid sequence induction and intubation for the patient with traumatic brain injury has not been standardized. ⋯ In patients with traumatic brain injury necessitating intubation, rocuronium appears to be safer than succinylcholine.

ReviewAirway registries in primarily adult, emergent endotracheal intubation: a scoping review.
Emergency Department (ED) airway registries are formalized methods to collect and document airway practices and outcomes. Airway registries have become increasingly common in EDs globally; yet there is no consensus of airway registry methodology or intended utility. This review builds on previous literature and aims to provide a thorough description of international ED airway registries and discuss how airway registry data is utilized. ⋯ Airway registries are used as a crucial tool to monitor and improve intubation performance and patient care. ED airway registries inform and document the efficacy of quality improvement initiatives to improve intubation performance in EDs globally. Standardized definitions of first-pass success and peri-intubation adverse events, such as hypotension and hypoxia, may allow for airway management performance to be compared on a more equivalent basis and allow for the development of more reliable international benchmarks for first-pass success and rates of adverse events in the future.
