Meta AnalysisNoninvasive Ventilation for Acute Respiratory Failure in Pediatric Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the use of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) for acute respiratory failure (ARF) in pediatric patients. ⋯ In pediatric patients, NIV applied for ARF might reduce the intubation rate compared with standard oxygen therapy or HFNC. No difference in mortality was observed.

Meta AnalysisImpact of Early Tracheostomy Versus Late or No Tracheostomy in Nonneurologically Injured Adult Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The optimal timing of tracheostomy in nonneurologically injured mechanically ventilated critically ill adult patients is uncertain. We conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effect of early versus late tracheostomy or prolonged intubation in this population. ⋯ In our systematic review, we observed that early tracheostomy, as compared with late tracheostomy or prolonged intubation, was not associated with a reduction in overall mortality. However, we cannot exclude a clinically relevant reduction in mortality considering the level of certainty of the evidence. A well-designed trial is needed to answer this important clinical question.

Intubation Rates Following Prehospital Administration of Ketamine for Acute Agitation: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Ketamine is a fast-acting, dissociative anesthetic with a favorable adverse effect profile that is effective for managing acute agitation as a chemical restraint in the prehospital and emergency department (ED) settings. However, some previously published individual studies have reported high intubation rates when ketamine was administered prehospitally. ⋯ There is wide variation in intubation rates between and within studies. The majority of intubations performed following prehospital administration of ketamine for agitation took place in the ED.

Pre-hospital tracheal intubation in severe traumatic brain injury: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) continues to be a leading cause of death, particularly in young adults. Severe TBI contributes to significant socioeconomic burden secondary to the long-term disability, impacting the individual and their family, and wider society. The aim of this study was to determine whether establishing a pre-hospital definitive airway was beneficial to mortality and morbidity when compared with no pre-hospital airway. ⋯ CRD42021234439.
