Peers and siblings are considered an important influence on children's and adolescents' food choice. However, there is a lack of studies examining how peer and sibling impact is related to children's and adolescents' eating behavior. The purpose of this study was to analyze peers' and siblings' impact on children's and adolescents' healthy eating behavior identified from a literature review, summarize the results, and discuss potential social factors that may predict these associations. ⋯ Peers' influence on children's and adolescents' healthy eating behavior is often found to be negative by the increase in consumption of energy-dense and low-nutrition value foods. However, in some cases, this influence can also be a positive one, and there is a need to find effective ways of how it could be used in encouraging healthy eating behavior of children and adolescents. Studies exploring siblings' impact on children's and adolescents' eating behavior are scarce. In addition, factors related to social interaction that may explain peers' and siblings' influence on children's and adolescents' healthy eating behavior are ambiguous. Therefore, more research in this area is needed.

ReviewTransgender Pediatric Surgical Patients - Important Perioperative Considerations.
Transgender describes a variety of identities in which an individual's gender identity is different from expected based on the sex assigned at birth. In the United States, it is estimated that over 1 million adults and 150 000 youth identify as transgender, with increasing numbers being seen in healthcare and surgical settings. ⋯ However, this is not the only circumstance in which the pediatric anesthesiologist may find themselves caring for a transgender patient. In order to provide the safest and most affirming care, it is crucial that the pediatric anesthesiologist develop a working knowledge of this unique and vulnerable population, including the potential impacts of gender-affirming treatment on their perioperative care.

Meta AnalysisHigh Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Improves Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) in Healthy, Overweight and Obese Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Controlled Studies.
Background: High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a sustainable and effective method for improving Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) in adolescents. HIIT is proven to produce equal or greater improvements in CRF when compared to moderate intensity continuous exercise (MICE) in adolescents. Methods: The studies included were considered eligible if: (1) Participants were adolescents (11-18 years old); (2) Examined changes in CRF measured either directly or indirectly; (3) Included a non-exercising control group or MICE comparison group; (4) Participants were matched at enrolment; (5) Reported HIIT protocol information; (6) Provided HIIT intensity. ⋯ Conclusions: HIIT is an effective method to improve CRF in adolescents, irrespective of body composition. Notably, meta regression analysis identified that prolonged high volume HIIT programs are similarly effective to short term low volume HIIT programs. This becomes of particular interest for those involved in school curricula, where short HIIT exercise may provide a pragmatic adjunct to the health benefits of Physical Education (PE) lessons.

Preterm delivery results in adverse outcomes; identifying and treating bacterial vaginosis may reduce its occurrence. ⋯ Accuracy of screening tests for bacterial vaginosis varies. The evidence suggests no difference in the incidence of preterm delivery and related outcomes from treatment for asymptomatic bacterial vaginosis in a general obstetric population but was inconclusive for women with a prior preterm delivery. Maternal adverse events from treatment appear to be infrequent and minor, but the evidence about harms from in utero exposure was inconclusive.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia develops in both children and adults, with a peak incidence between 1 year and 4 years. Most acute lymphoblastic leukaemia arises in healthy individuals, and predisposing factors such as inherited genetic susceptibility or environmental exposure have been identified in only a few patients. It is characterised by chromosomal abnormalities and genetic alterations involved in differentiation and proliferation of lymphoid precursor cells. ⋯ Disease-risk stratification and the development of intensified chemotherapy protocols substantially improves the outcome of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, particularly in children (1-14 years), but also in adolescents and young adults (15-39 years). However, the outcome of older adults (≥40 years) and patients with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukaemia remains poor. New immunotherapeutic strategies, such as monoclonal antibodies and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, are being developed and over the next few years could change the options for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia treatment.
