Peony and licorice decoction fumigation treatment for strephenopodia after stroke: Study protocol for a randomized controlled pilot trial.
As one of the most common functional disabilities in stroke patients with hemiplegia, poststroke strephenopodia (PSS) seriously affects the life quality of patients, and causes mental and emotional disorders. Some studies have suggested that the traditional Chinese medicine fumigation therapy could be an effective intervention method for patients with PSS. This study aims to investigate the biomechanical effect of the classic prescription peony and licorice decoction (PLD) fumigation treatment for PSS. ⋯ The results of this study are expected to verify the clinical effect of PLD fumigation treatment for strephenopodia after stroke, and to explore the related biomechanical mechanisms by objective evaluation parameter.

A randomized, multi-center, open-label study to compare the safety and efficacy between afatinib monotherapy and combination therapy of afatinib and HAD-B1 for the locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations.
Afatinib is an epidermal growth factor receptor - tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) with proven efficacy for treating patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Unfortunately, responses are limited by acquired resistance. Because traditional Korean medicine may have synergistic effects when combined with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, the aim of our study is to elucidate the efficacy and safety of afatinib plus HangAmDan-B1 (HAD-B1) combination therapy in the treatment of patients with NSCLC, as well as EGFR mutations, who need afatinib therapy. ⋯ The result of this clinical trial will provide evidence for the efficacy and safety of using HAD-B1 in the treatment of EGFR-positive patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC who require afatinib therapy.

Effect of Hydroxychloroquine on Clinical Status at 14 Days in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Data on the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are needed. ⋯ Among adults hospitalized with respiratory illness from COVID-19, treatment with hydroxychloroquine, compared with placebo, did not significantly improve clinical status at day 14. These findings do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of COVID-19 among hospitalized adults.

Multicenter StudyThe effect of early broad-spectrum versus delayed narrow-spectrum antibiotic therapy on the primary cure rate of acute infection after osteosynthesis.
Infection near metal implants is a problem that presents challenging treatment dilemmas for physicians. The aim of this study was to analyse the efficacy of two treatment protocols for acute fracture-related infections. ⋯ Both protocols yielded high overall success rates. Immediate empirical antibiotics can be used safely without additional bacterial resistance and may contribute to increased success rates.

Dynamic Change in Serum Alpha-fetoprotein Level Predicts Treatment Response and Prognosis of Alpha-fetoprotein-producing Gastric Cancer.
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing gastric cancer (AFPGC) is rare and associated with a suboptimal prognosis. The aim of this retrospective study was to identify prognostic factors, with a particular focus on the dynamics of serum AFP levels during treatment, in AFPGC patients. Data of patients with pathologically diagnosed primary gastric cancer treated with various modalities electronically collected in the medical management systems of 2 hospitals (ie, Shihezi People's Hospital and Shihezi Hospital) in Shihezi city, northwest China, from January 2007 to October 2018 were reviewed. ⋯ On univariate and multivariate analyses, tumor, node, metastasis staging classification stage, liver metastasis, curable surgery, and the decline in the serum AFP level were associated with OS and PFS. A significant decline in the serum AFP level was associated with good treatment response and prognosis in AFPGC. Along with a decline in the serum AFP level, tumor, node, metastasis staging classification stage, liver metastasis, and curable surgery were also independent factors associated with prognosis.
