Long-term Auditory Symptoms in Patients With Sporadic Vestibular Schwannoma: An International Cross-Sectional Study.
There are limited data on the long-term auditory symptoms in patients with sporadic small- and medium-sized vestibular schwannoma (VS). The initial treatment strategy for VS is controversial. ⋯ The overall prognosis for hearing in sporadic VS is poor regardless of treatment strategy. Treatment modality was an independent predictor of hearing status; observation was associated with the highest rate of hearing preservation. .

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyApremilast, an oral phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor, in patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis: Results of a phase III, randomized, controlled trial (Efficacy and Safety Trial Evaluating the Effects of Apremilast in Psoriasis [ESTEEM] 1).
Apremilast works intracellularly to regulate inflammatory mediators. ⋯ Apremilast was effective in moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Immediate Discharge and Home Treatment With Rivaroxaban of Low-risk Venous Thromboembolism Diagnosed in Two U.S. Emergency Departments: A One-year Preplanned Analysis.
The study hypothesis was that a target-specific anticoagulant would allow successful home treatment of selected patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosed in two urban emergency departments (EDs). ⋯ Patients diagnosed with VTE and immediately discharged from the ED while treated with rivaroxaban had a low rate of VTE recurrence and bleeding.

Predictors of Clinical Use of Pleurodesis and/or Indwelling Pleural Catheter Therapy for Malignant Pleural Effusion.
The clinical course of patients with malignant pleural effusions (MPEs) varies. The decision to undertake "definitive therapy" (pleurodesis, indwelling pleural catheter [IPC], or both) for MPEs is decided on a case-by-case basis. Identifying factors that predict definitive therapy may help guide early initiation of treatment. The aim of the study was to identify clinical, laboratory, and radiologic predictors associated with clinicians' prescription of definitive therapy for patients with MPE. ⋯ Patients with MPE with an effusion of low pleural fluid pH and large size on radiographs at first presentation are more likely to be treated with pleurodesis and/or IPC.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyLong-term outcomes from the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network Prescription Opioid Addiction Treatment Study.
Despite the growing prevalence of prescription opioid dependence, longitudinal studies have not examined long-term treatment response. The current study examined outcomes over 42 months in the Prescription Opioid Addiction Treatment Study (POATS). ⋯ Long-term outcomes for those dependent on prescription opioids demonstrated clear improvement from baseline. However, a subset exhibited a worsening course, by initiating heroin use and/or injection opioid use.
