Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)-era resuscitation guidelines advised personal protective equipment before chest compressions and proactive advanced care planning. We investigated the impact of COVID-19 on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) outcomes according to scoring of frailty and of multiple health conditions. A retrospective single-centre analysis of clinical and electronic records for all adult cardiac arrest calls on wards between June 2020 and June 2021 was performed. ⋯ There were linear relationships between Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) or Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and diminished survival in the pooled data (both p<0.001). Both increasing frailty (measured by CFS) and comorbidity (measured by CCI) were associated with reduced survival from CPR. However, survival and ROSC during COVID-19 were no worse than before the pandemic.

Effects of permanent placental injury due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection during pregnancy on the feto-placental circulation: a cross-sectional study.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of permanent placental injury due to a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection during pregnancy on feto-placental circulation. ⋯ Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection during pregnancy causes an increase in perivillous fibrin deposition and villus dystrophic calcification in the placenta. Placental injury caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus does not affect fetal Doppler parameters.

With the emergence of Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, Taiwan has encountered the greatest coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic since 2022 spring. We analyzed the characteristics, vaccinations, and outcomes of hospitalized COVID-19 patients quarantined in a dedicated ward. This retrospective study enrolled hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the dedicated wards of a district hospital in southern Taiwan from May 2022 to July 2022. ⋯ Age, Charlson Comorbidity Index, and quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score were recognized as strong prognostic indicators for mortality in multivariable analysis. Vaccination demonstrated significant lower odds of death among relatively young populations in subgroup analysis. COVID-19 vaccination had significant efficacy in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the relatively young group, and the effect may decline among individuals with advanced age and multiple comorbidities.

Simvastatin in Critically Ill Patients with Covid-19.
The efficacy of simvastatin in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is unclear. ⋯ Although recruitment was stopped because cases had decreased, among critically ill patients with Covid-19, simvastatin did not meet the prespecified criteria for superiority to control. (REMAP-CAP ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT02735707.).
